    That's right your bad!

LoL just another tiny-penis syndrome airman on our hands - nothing to see here.

This is why the AF is known for good-looking women and nothing else - and they always found themselves in the Marine Corps barracks.

Anyone who joins the military is a hero.

You need to stop right there. There are a lot of worthless people who join the military and get dishonorable discharges.

Also remember bow bergdahl is not a fucking hero. He is a traitor who got fellow soldiers killed because he wanted to play Talib an.

So go drink your stale coffee and keep your biased ass opinions to your self.

I actually see where @Conumdrum is/was coming from. His point is that all persons play a part in the military. However, if one wasn't there the other truly couldn't operate.

And it is true that all Marines are a rifleman. I know this because my cousin was sent to Iraq while in the marine as an artillery person. He never loaded a single hotwitzer. He was given a rifle and told to clear buildings in the second invasion of Fallujah, Iraq. (The second was conducted by Marine's, the first by the Army. The Army got the pants best off of them the first time. Read about it, it's a great tale of valor.)

Now I did do two enlistments with the Air Force. I did a lot of cool stuff while I was in. And my reason for the Air Force was because my grandfather said to never join the Army, they treat their people like dog shit. He was a Purple Heart recipient and jumped as a paratrooper on D-Day WWII.

I've worked with the Army a bit, and I've worked with the Navy during a HVT Prisoner Transport mission. I can't say either was any worse than the jack wagons I've been stationed with or deployed with.

Can't say I've "worked" with Marines at all, but I will tell you I came across a few of them in Kyrgyzstan as they were getting ready to enter Afghanistan, and I'll be honest....they have a presence of "bad ass" about them. Personally I felt honored to share a chow hall with them, even if just for a few hours.

    Now, that I've said all of that, I'll tell you this;

    I was in Combat Control School a few years back. Which is special tactics of the Air Force. Everyday you run. You run to eat, you run to pee, you run while taking a crap. While you run you sing "Jodies". We had a Jodie that went like this;
    Triangle triangle look at me,
You know you wanna be CCT,
Marching everywhere with your book bag,
Your boring life must be a drag,
    Running, swimming, push ups too,
We're in better shape than you!

The commodant stopped me at the last line and said "I don't ever wanna here that song EVER again! Your ass will be stuck in Afghanistan with a broken radio and won't know how to fix it and one of these nerds will be the only ones that know how!! And because you started today making them enemies they will FOREVER be your enemies and you won't be able to do your job to bring in air support!!"

The "triangle" was an area we ran through that will all the "other" career fields like, electronics, radar, computer systems, etc. they were super smart folks who probably make more money than I'll ever see, but hey "I was a tough guy" back then. But his view changed me forever.

No, that marine doesn't get paid if the finance troop doesn't do his job, but the finance troop can't do his job if his not protected on the "wall". One team, one fight, Hooyah!

I took a crack at CCT in '11. Its a rush man, but I suggest doing your research and knowing what you are getting to. Make sure you talk to your recruiter and have it in writing that your MOS/AFSC/or rate is solid. Next, start training now! Look up stew smith and rescueathlete.com for a start. Whatever branch you choose, you will never regret it, promise that! it is all a mind fuck with what the cadre are putting you through, they wanna make sure you do not freeze up when bullets start flying. You'll definitely learn a thing or two about yourself. It is the cost of earning to be hardcore!

I've not served in the military (medical DQ), but I have friends in all branches and some in Special Operations for a couple of branches. I have great respect for all that serve honorably. All I know is that a Tacoma truck forum is the LAST place they would discuss anything related to what they do or did to prep for what they do. "Silent Professionals".... Remember!

    Im in heaven....

15 years in so I'll join in...

My neighbor is roided out, covered in tattoos, with a pretty legit beard... Wears a lot of rogue American, and/or 2nd amendment type shirts.... Folks ask if he's special forces all the time. He gets off to this shit. I laugh. Two of my best buddies are or have been seals,to include my nephew, neither reflect that image. One looks like a super geek. 6'5" and lanky as all get out

Not all military folks are Heroes, as some previously said. The military is a direct reflection of the current society. It's made up of honorable men and women as well as thieves, rapist, drug dealers, and pussies hiding behind a false pretense of badassery. It's unfortunate though because there are many who put it on the line daily while these shitbags sit back home and are thanked for their service and let folks pay for their meals, on a daily basis while still doing all the illegal stuff they did before joining. They're not heroes, they're con artist

Don't take that the wrong way. I'm extremely proud to serve, but I can't stand a shitbag

Do what makes you happy bro. If you want guidance, find an old Specwar mentor in your area and let them PT the piss out of you daily. They'll do it for free.

Go talk to a recruiter about the 18X program. You are essentially enlisting to go straight to SF. You will go straight to Infantry Basic / OSUT and then go to Assessment. I have quite a few friends who went that route (I didn't; I flew helos but worked with many SF folks) so I can't completely speak to it but many of them entered the military that route. Just be prepared to be an Infantryman if you don't make the assessment. You could always wrap up school and go to OCS and then assess for SF. If you are fit and not a screw up, you will get an assessment. It's like anything else in the military; they are looking for aptitude and drive. I have seen many soldiers botch assessments but because they busted their ass they still got a shot. The military is good about that.

Hey bud, go talk to an army recruiter about an SF contract. I think they call it 18X now. Whatever it is, your recruiter will most likely say you aren't eligible. Be persistent, he works for you, make him do what he needs to do to get you the contract. DO NOT join without the contract! Selection is difficult, but its doable. Start running medium long distances and getting yourself physically fit. Write down a personal statement on why you want to put yourself through the program. It has to be something real and important to you. Think about these reasons during training. Don't quit. You can do it, many have done it before you.

FWIW, having been through OCS in the last six months, they don't offer assessments straight from OCS. You'd have to branch infantry and really 'wow' the I-BOLC & Ranger cadre to have any chance at getting assessed that early on as an officer. Having a Ranger tab is essentially mandatory to become a platoon leader in a plain-jane infantry line unit.

I'd agree that if the OP is really serious about SF, going 18X is how to do it. And to +1 someone above me, you need to be very prepared for the reality of three or four years as an 11B if things don't work out at selection.

Except a SEAL; they write books, do TV interviews, and get jobs as professional commentators on CNN once they get out.

Hey now, nothing wrong with being a 11B. I was one for 8 yrs before I got smart enough for a commission. :)

Seriously though, lots of great movement for a motivated 11B. Lots of pretty crappy positions too. Somewhat luck, but also depends on personal ability and motivation. Ranger, airborne, 10th mountain, etc. offer some excitement and danger for the youngsters who don't make it into SF units. Honestly though, after 8 years of living in the dirt I was glad to have bars.

Absolutely nothing wrong with trying and not making it either. My son tried and failed on the last test for MARSOC twice. I know it hurt not making it, but it's designed to exclude most. Actually, most never even try.

Since it seems you haven't enlisted yet, I would talk with a recruiter from whichever branch you decide to go in and go from there.

Whatever you choose, be happy about it and make the best of it. You have to do what's best for you, and you alone.

Thank you for taking the time to go and serve your country.

    Good luck.

Your not saying my year+ in training wasn't hard? It was brain power. Brain builds the world, heros make the history books, I don't GAFF. I went through many batteries in my calculator and spend many hours in remedial schooling, 12 hours a day. Yes we had coffee, a smoke break, hot food, a soft bed to sleep in every night. My 16 hours a day 7 days a week prepping a wing of F-4's for a major deployment in the radar calibration hanger didn't help the war effort? When the bombs drop to save your hero self, did you say thank you, you did back then I'm sure. To the helicopters that brought you to the fight and brought you bullets? Someone fixed them every day.

You chose your idea of what the military meant, I chose mine. I played with electronics when I was 8, my dad was an engineer for the military. I wasn't a sports hero in high school, I was a young hippy wanna be. I did my job. Retired as an E-7.

I'm happy you are proud of your service, I am too. I don't go to the gun shows or have fancy patches saying I was baddassed. I love my wife, golf, BBQing, and when I pull the laptop out at work and fix it I'm magic. Fixing AC Frequency drives for $5 in parts vs sending them in for repair for $8000, the company I work for is happy.

How is your military afterlife? Your job? I get a retirement check, into savings every month, ALL of it, it's candy in the bank. I got's 3.5 years to go till 62.5. I'm good, sorry you have issues.

Sorry it got personal. I feel you just can't get off the warrior thing you did, saw friends die, you did the hard work. I did as much as you, but in a diff environment.

You'd punch me in the face in a bar, I'd pay your tab. Thanks for the hard job you did. I did the easy Brain work. IMHO.
