My first impressions of this unit is I hate it compared to entune oem. Why would my speakers be completely staticky when turned up less than half way? They’ve never sounded like this ever. It sounds like my tweeters are static when turn the volume up? @destin_meeks

I’m sick I’ve spent all this money and my system sounds like shit now. About 10 times worse than before all this. Just went for a ride and speakers keep cutting in and out. Off and on

Did you recalibrate your amplifier gains for the new stereo?

I’ve got the gains all the way down and I took the dq 61 out of the equation for the time being bc I just wanted music back up and running. Only running off the new JL amp currently

Did you use the high level or low level signals from the HU and reconcile the setting on the amplifier?

I used low level inputs from my headunit to the amp and then ran speaker wire and posi tapped into factory speaker harness from JL

Part of the reason it's frustrating to help people on the internet is that there are people who, for some reason, have a hard time answering the questions that people ask them during troubleshooting.

    From the JL Manual:

This switch affects all channels of the amplifier equally. The “Low” position on the “Input Voltage” switch selects an input sensitivity range between 200mV and 2V. This means that the “Input Sens.” rotary controls will operate within that voltage window. If you are using an aftermarket source unit, with conventional preamp level outputs, this is the position you should select. The “High” position on the “Input Voltage” switch selects an input sensitivity range between 800mV and 8V. This is useful for certain highoutput preamp level signals as well as speaker level output from source units and small amplifiers.

I said the word reconcile for this reason. I don't know what HU you bought off hand. New units are commonly 4V+ however. This means that as you turn up the volume on the head unit, you will easily exceed the LOW position setting specification on this amplifier.

I'm pretty sure that's not helping the situation.

The way I understood the manual is I needed to use low level since I’m running rca

My HU that I bought 10 years ago states that the line level outputs are 2V outputs. When I measured the actual voltage over the signal wire not too long ago, I was able to get about 9V at max volume. If your your HU is a 4-5V pre-amp output model, you'll want to use the high setting on this amplifier.

The fact that you have what sounds like signal distortion with the input sensitivity set to minimum on the ampilfier tells me this is the case.

Well the fuse on this headunit is popping now. Words can’t express how fuckn sick of a feeling this is. I do not get it but it’s obviously something I’ve done wrong

If at this point you're still not going to have a professional handle your situation, I prescribe to you about 3 days of these guys, their 911 videos in particular, but also pay attention to the tools they use, how they dress cables, etc.

    https://www.youtube.com/user/fivestarcarstereoinc

You can still work though this, it's just necessary to realize that you've chosen to go from a simple upgrade to a full blown premium stereo installation in a very short amount of time with no experience. The skill set required for something like this is not something that happens instantly. A lot of guys have thrown in stereos for decades before going for a full system with DSP. Making things worse, cars have gotten more and more complicated, more integrated, and very much more difficult to install stereos in over the last several years.

Professionally, I do not do car stereos, I do venue systems. Installation is more complicated in cars, but when something goes wrong, a lot of the same things apply. I've been installing, tuning, and troubleshooting audio systems for more than two decades, but it wasn't until 2010 that I installed my first full stereo replacement in one of my vehicles. It was hard. It took patience. Most importantly, I had the tools and a plan.

Unfortunately you have run into a situation where simple knowledge of sound systems isn't going to resolve everything. You have an electrical issue. This is something that someone with a total understanding of 12V systems, or experience doing electrical work will need to take a look at. It could be something simple like a wire with power is grounding somewhere, but you need to FIND it. Someone with a multi-meter and the knowledge to use it will have a much easier time figuring it out.

I'm not sure what the fuse on the HU is meant to protect, where it sits in the power path, if it's protecting the unit from a speaker wiring issue, or if it protects the remote turn on circuit. Knowing this information will be valuable in narrowing your search.
