the alpine? if it's popping fuses on the back of it, it very well could be. only way to find out is get those speakers wires isolated and try again powering it up

So I need to plug it back in without connecting the speaker harness to see if it powers up or not?

I’ve not tried it without the JL hooked up to it. I disconnected EVERYTHING earlier after it blew fuse and felt hot. Never attempted again

Also how else would you install this thing with an outboard amp? Only option to run speaker wires directly into speaker he speakers from JL ? I’ve also had a powered infinity sub connected to that harness but it never powered on

The alpine unit is fried. @JDattilio im trying to understand what I did wrong. I’ve ran new speaker wire since this through my doors rubber boots that I’m planning on running straight to my JL audio amp. I haven’t decided what my next head unit will be. Aftermarket or just get an oem entune 7” like my original plan was. You’re saying that when I used the speaker harness that came from my alpine that already had internal amplifier in it is where I went wrong? What sucks s the maestro instructions didn’t say to cut the speaker wires if hooking up an amp. The instructions asked if my truck was with jbl or without jbl. I put without and followed the instructions

    The Maestro RR Harness is simple to install; basically follow the instructions they give you on what wire goes where; Hook it all up and your basically good to go; However if you are wiring up an amplifier to power your door speakers; You need to NOT wire the speaker wires from the Radio to the Harness;

You use the RCA output from the Radio; which then goes into the Amp; then you would wire FROM the AMP to the speaker wires on the Maestro RR harness to send signal to your Speakers without having to route new wiring.

Otherwise if you do not utilize the Maestro RR harness to send signal to your speakers; you would have to wire individual wires to all your door speakers from the AMP; I do it my way utilizing the Maestro harness; makes my life so much simpler

Exactly. My maestro instructions did not specify not to wire alpine harness to maestro speaker wires and this is what I did and blew another $1,000 head unit. The maestro asked if my truck was with or without jbl. It’s without so that’s what I entered. I did cut the rca off the alpine speaker wires like it said but I also soldered them together with maestro. I also noticed that it said without amplifier but at that point I assumed it was talking about factory jbl amplifier.

I then plugged everything into my truck and posi tapped my jl audio amp into the factory side of the speaker harness. BIG MISTAKE evidently. Guess this explains why Everything sounded like shit before it finally fried the unit

In hindsight I wish I’d just kept my alpine power pack and dq 61 setup with powered infinity sub underneath my seat. It sounded pretty damn good tbh but I had to see what even more sounded like from reading all these other builds and I cost myself lots of money that I didn’t really need to spend on audio in first place. It’s fine it’s a learning experience and money is replaceable. Just about to go crazy riding around the past few days in silence with wires hanging from my dash.
Lol I’m gonna end up with a $3,000 audio system that I paid closer to 6 with at the end of the day.

at this point I’m ALL in though. I’m ordering focal expert components and a audio control dm dsp or a audison bit ten or possibly just get the JL audio VXi 700/5i amp/dsp after I decide which head unit to go with. I’m gonna have a badass stereo system although I’ll have way more money in it then it’s worth. Btw my dealership won’t sell me a new entune stereo without me letting the technician look over all my wiring

To be honest; at this point maybe you should take it in and have someone do the install? considering the amount of money you've already spent. Return the headunit and get it exchanged; Im sure wherever you bought it from would do it. They don't lose any money; all that is usually sent back to warranty or claims which all companies usually gets reimbursed for

I’ve already talked to them and they say the warranty is between me and alpine since I did the install. So much for trying to shop locally. Little shops don’t just take stuff back around here bc I was honest and told them what happened.

and yeah that would probably make the most sense but i need to do this install just to prove to myself I can. I believe I understand where I screwed up now. I know from reading all my mess ups I sound like a dumbass but I’m really not that damn stupid. At least that’s what I keep telling myself

Btw I just posted lots of almost new and some never used equipment I’d bought before my install in the 3rd gen marketplace priced to sell so I can get some money back for this stereo I’m about to buy for those interested in a deal

From how you described it yes you hooked up both the alpine internal amp and the JL xd together, which is why yes you couldn't get any volume and is sounded very very bad, and why you torched the alpine. Maestro instructions are going on the thought that you will be hooking up the amp from your new radio, if they had instructions for every possible scenario there would be way to many pages for each vehicle. In your excitement to kick up the quality you made a mistake, it happens. Alpine makes it not so easy for the small shops to "just send items back" I'd still reach out to them for repair of the unit but I wouldn't offer the bit about you hooking it up with another amp together..... I'd recommend if your really wanting to get a dsp, and tune it yourself, to watch all of 5 star car stereo youtube videos on dsp, they do a great job breaking down the audio control products and they touch on the tune software (JL's dsp software) as well, and really study the product before diving into it. JL's software you can download off their website and can open it up in a demo mode to play around with it.

Yeah I’ve been watching some of their videos and they do a good job of break down.

Yeah idk if I wanna go full dsp anymore after watching videos. Way complicated. May just roll with DQDX or Rockford fosgate dsr1 maestro for aftermarket or keep my dq 61 if go oem entune factory unit

and damnit wish I’d asked a few more questions before tapping into that harness and frying another head unit. Oh well shit happnws and at least my battery and truck are fused properly and big 3 up graded.

I’m running 14 gauge wire from my JL amp straight into speaker doors. Actually already ran the wire to the front speakers and back to my sub with 12 gauge wire. Just gotta get another head unit

If you're thinking about aftermarket still look into kenwood excelon screen, will give you the meastro features and has a basic dsp onboard for time alignment and 13 band eq

Actually been looking at the Kenwood DNX 996XR I believe it is and the stinger heigh10 and elev8. For the little time I got to use the alpine head unit Which was an hour I didn’t get the feeling I was gonna like It. Seemed dated and hated the buttons on it. I’m leaning Kenwood excelon unit. Looking back to last week. I made sort of a panic type decision on the alpine head unit. I’d just learned my entune was fried and wanted something on the spot to replace it and listen to my new equipment. So I jumped the gun. Sucks...

all three are great units, and have pros and cons to each. I personally like the kenwood for the fact that they use garmin for their nav section

I’m still having some trouble understanding why amplifying the same wires that are going into the speakers would’ve had an ill effect on the stereo itself.. even if the stereo is sending out an amplified signal already and you put more amplification onto that signal isn’t it still going out rather than into the head unit?
