Speedo calibration on 3rd Gen Tacoma

Thanks. I did see this and actually tried to purchase it. They literally would not let me do so. I live in the communist state of CA. Here, it is illegal to know how fast you are going as it may cause speeding ticket revenue to decrease. I understand Rough Country will ship to CA (and quite a bit cheaper) but do not support 2021 vehicles.

 

Ask RC. afaik it's the same unit, their listing just might not be updated.

I have the RC one myself.

 

I talked to them earlier today. He said they had not been "Programmed" for the 2021s yet. He said they were working on it, but no idea when it would be done. Sure seems like this is a very strange thing to not work the same from the same gen/close model year.

 

I find that hard to believe as the calibrator software for RC comes from the same place as Hypertech:

I plan to move to a free state soon... I have a bit more exploring to do yet here in CA, then I'm outa!

This was a good bit of info to uncover! I wonder if Hypertech "locks" their hardware/software to RC until they have got all the early buyers for their high priced version? Maybe they just have a deal with RC that RC can't advertise until a certain date/threshold has passed. Maybe I will try it and see what happens...

 

I purchased the RC calibrator, and used the Hypertech software. Works just fine.

 

Anyone know what type is usb cable connects to the unit. As 4WP never gave me my cable.

 

Pretty sure it's a USB Mini (the fatter type).

Do these allow correcting for gear swaps or just tire size?

 

Pretty sure it can. There's an option to specify gear stuff. Don't know if it's the new ratio (e.g. 5.29) vs the ratio of new vs d gears, like you do with tires.

Does anyone know if the spedo recal also keeps cruise control accurate? So if I see 65mph on the speedometer that the cruse thinks it's also set at 65 in the information screen?

On my 2018, the main analog and digital speedo numbers are updated/accurate, but the cruise control set speed number on the info screen is not. Doesn't really matter though, if you set your cruise for 65, it holds at 65, even though the info screen set speed shows a different number.
