    Beautiful truck

What rear bumper are you looking at ? I would love a rear wig a swing out and jerry can holder

There doesn't seem to be much options out there

Thank you sir! I am going to build one, I've started building it in SolidWorks(CAD). I'll be cutting the bedsides off about an inch below the tail light all the way to the wheel. That way I can have the bumper high and tight. I think I'll use a trailer wheel bearing and spindle to support a swingout that holds a single jerry can and my spare.

Not a huge fan of swingouts myself but once I relocate the shocks there will be no under vehicle storage for the tire anymore. You're right though there aren't many choices that aren't absolutely monolithic or just plain fugly. CBI has the best looking made to order one.... but they are expensive and hang too low for my tastes.

Also I updated my OP in this thread with some new pics and a couple changes in the mods section.

How long of a center pin did you need with the axle shim?
I've got some expos on the way
I see wheelers sells a shim with new pins but I don't know if that one will be long enough.

The pin that came with my Dakars was long enough to make it through the shims I bought. The shims came with a new pin and it was plenty long too but the threaded portion was too thick to make it through the center hole in the Dakars.

Oh ok. For some reason I thought I read you had all pros. Was that the wheelers kit you got?

Yeah it was the wheelers shims, but they changed manufactures at some point so I'm not sure if they are the same. I would ask all-pro what the size of the center hole in their leafs is, the pin that came with the shims was 3/8 diameter.

Yeah the bedside area and the rear bumper will all be separate part files that I'll combine into an assembly. The mounting brackets will be separate as well. I'm trying to make use of already fabricated metal shapes like rectangle tube stock. But I may need to use 3/8 or quarter inch plate for the corners. I won't be having any of this laser or water jet cut although I could at school but I'll export a cut list for sure.

I don't think ive used weldments before. I may take you up on that. Right now I'm building the rear of the frame so I can build the bumper off of it.

What kind of camper shell is that? Innovation? There's one for sale here locally for $400, but I have one I'm trying to sell before I can buy that one. It looks like something that suits my wants for headroom for camping in it and it looks like it has a fold out window on the driver's side for moving stuff in and out of the bed? Great looking build so far.

It's a Raider camper shell. Got it for $50 on Craigslist. I think the shell design is either really common or shared by companies because I've seen other branded shells that looked the exact same. The drivers side has a window that opens upward and outward like the rear hatch. Pretty dang cool that it was the same color too. There are a couple around me for 1st gen tacos.

    Thanks, glad you like it.

Have you switched out your radiator yet?

Awesome deal - I plan on getting a random high top shell eventually too - I like them a lot for the height and quirkiness factor!

Put the radiator on the laundry list. Have you known anyone that put that OSC radiator in? I read a few reviews on 4runner forums, but nothing on here. Also looking at Koyorad full size (auto) radiators - they got the nod from a mechanic that was pressing out a rear axle bearing a couple weeks ago. Driveshaft & carrier bearing also need some love as well as some suspect looking coolant needs to be investigated. This build will probably happen over years the way it's looking - working on getting a job teaching and working on a thesis. If money grew on trees and time would stand still, I'd have this finished by the end of summer. We'll see - I would like to build and restore it so that it's more reliable than any number of trucks out there. I'm in the research phase. Learning how to do the maintenance and source parts is taking up a lot of time that should be going to school. Secretly I always wanted to learn how to work on vehicles, I think this is my training lol.

I out drove my vision on the trail. When I finally saw the upcoming 90 degree turn it was too late and my reaction was poor, I slid sideways and my front end caught a berm and sent me over at about 35mph. I bounced off both edges of either side of the roof and landed back on wheels without a scratch on me. Truck's body is toast as I blew out a couple windows and the cab is terminally crushed in critical support areas. But it kept me alive and safe so why wouldn't I get another one haha. Ended up wheeling it two more days and 100 or so miles on dirt to finish the trip. Then drove it another 500mi before parking it until yesterday when I started swapping parts to the 1996 Tacoma I bought two days ago. Putting my drivetrain in this new truck currently.
