Hub-centric spacers have a lip around the center bore for the wheel to seat. Non-hub centric spacers are flush. See: As for safety, unless you know who made the spacers, the material and workmanship could always be suspect. Did you install the spacers yourself or let a shop do it? Using impact tools on the lugnuts is not recommended with spacers. If the tires are rubbing, take the spacers off.

They don't need to be hub centric, trail gear spacers are not hub centric and are fine

I've never really understood the point of buying wheel spacers just for looks

I wouldn't call them dangerous but I wouldn't put my trust in spacers as the last line of defence from stopping my wheels from popping off while offroading or worse yet driving down the freeway.

I can see it as a temporary solution to fit big tires on stock wheels but if your wheels fit already why bother? If you want your wheels to stick out buy wheels with a different offset....

On a separate note, has nobody been hassled about tires that stick out too far? I got towed off the highway with my last Tacoma that was otherwise 100% safe for that exact reason. I had to purchase fender flares that covered the tires before the truck was aloud back on the road

Tacoma with some stuff melted to it

I think some states have laws about it but our officers here in the US have better things to do. But if you drive like an ass I'm sure they can always tack that extra charge on

Spider Trax are hub-centric and use a special anodized aluminum which avoids rust.

I believe mine are ALL-PRO's. They are 1.25". I had a slight bit of rubbing with a 3" ToyTec lift. They are NOT hub-centric, but I have had no problems with them. I used a torque wrench on them and the rims. No vibrations in 5000miles of use.

Also not sure suspension is the right place for this.
