Last night the cruise control in my 2006 Tacoma TRD quit working. A little research indicates that more than likely it is the "Spiral Cable"/"Clock Spring" unit. One site said that if the light doesn't come on when the steering wheel is centered, but comes on when turned full left or right, then the unit is bad. Mine does that.
Mine was already fixed under the factory recall around 2013/2014, and a phone call to Toyota says that now the repair is out of my own pocket.
So far, I've found two different part numbers for the spiral cable unit. Toyota #84306-04080 and #84306-48030.
Does anyone know which is the proper one? Or will they both work?

All I can say is one is for a truck with steering wheel controls for the stereo ( it has an additional ribbon cable in it ).

The other is for those without steering wheel controls.

The cheaper one is probably the one for no controls.

Or call the dealer with your VIN and ask which part number if for your truck.

Went into Toyota today and this is the part number they gave me

    84306-04080

Let me know what you end up doing because I’m in the same boat. Not sure which one to get

The old one that came out of my truck, 2006 without the steering wheel controls, has a sticker on it that has "04080". My research turned up that "04030" is for those with the steering wheel controls. There is an obvious visual difference between the two. There is/are a female plug receptical/s at the 12 o'clock position right next to the airbag wires. On 04080(without steering wheel controls it is a small squarish receptical with 3 wires. The photos that I have seen of 04030, show that part as having an additional rectangular female plug between the original small one on the 04080 and the airbag wires.

Here is a picture of the old one from my truck.
It has a sticker with the part number, "04080".
FWIW, I did not buy from Toyota. I got mine from Rock Auto, and I chose not to go with the cheapest one. I went with a middle of the road price unit. The one I got is virtually identical, down to the front moldings, to the one that came out of my truck. The only difference between the two, is that the OEM part has two stickers attached. One has a bar code, and one has the part number "04080".

You may have to do a manual vsc reset with the install . Just look on tw for a thread. Basically you need to jumper two pins on your obd2 port when you turn the key. I had to do this when I replaced my spiral cable.

Can you find the one you bought that doesn’t have the steering wheel controls and post the link?

What confuses me is the W/O cruise control

That had me confused too. I think that they are confused. I think that "without cruise control" should be without steering wheel controls.

OP - isn't there an actual recall for this? If so let the dealer replace it.

Edit: this is from the NHTSA website:

Yeah already had it replaced with the recall... now they said because they did it once, it’s on me to fix it now. So that’s why I’m here trying to find out how to not spend a bunch of money and do it myself

So out of the 5 available from rock auto, the STP for $96 is worth it, instead of the SKP for $47

Yeah unfortunately the actual ribbon on for the cruise control circuit is damaged.. you can replace it or do what I did for my damaged ribbon for the horn portion of the circuit and do a repin on the current one you have which will save you labor and a hell of a decent amount of change.

There are two free pins on the clockspring. If you can identify which one is for the cruise control and just do a repin at both the front of the clockspring connector and the side of it then you will be back in business.

The job does require ability to read schematics, knowledge of use with an ohmeter and some basic hand tools as well as reading glasses repair tools for removing the pins from their respective circuits to do the relocate. It is well worth the trouble if you have the know how for this.

I used the SKP and found absolutely no problems with it. It appears to virtually identical to the one that came out of my Toyota, less two little stickers. There are cheaper ones on EvilBay, but I chose not to go that route.

Yeah i don’t have time to try and fix this one myself so I’ll spend the $50 and get the SKP

So i got it, installed it in about 20 mind. Light stayed on but the cruise control works and the ON light comes on when i have a passenger in the car... i noticed on the new one that there was an extra spot for a harness to plug into next to the white clip that plugs in. I put it back together or else I’d post pics
