Splicing accessory wire

    My thread on wiring a winch switch was a flop.

    I'm 30 seconds from having a functional winch, but need to splice the fused red wire on my winch accessory switch to a wire that is hot only when the ignition is on.

    I'm not very confident when it comes to messing with the wiring on my truck. I just need someone to tell/ show me a good wire to spice into for this use.

    you could do an add a circuit on the accessory fuse that powers the 12v sockets in the truck if needed inside of the truck, or something like the ignition fuse if needed in the engine bay.

    im assuming thats just for low amp draw for switching the relays on the winch?

    Correct. Is it not advisable to just splice into an existing wire as Warn suggests?

    you could, but its almost easier to use an add a circuit to keep it clean.

    I just tapped into one of the 12v outlets. Had to wrastle with her a bit, though...

    ^ very easy to do. I haven't looked, but you can probably find a unused spot in your fuse block that will work for you and give you a dedicated circuit.
