fwiw, the sr5 and even the base model have the same traction aids and engine as the sport.

if your going to lift it the stock shocks wont matter. painted grill, bumper and hood scoop will cost a max of $700

the sport also has 17" rims (tires cost more and not as good performance offroad since the aspect ratio is less.)

so save $3k and get the sr5 or base model and get color stuff or spend the money for the offroad with locker and Atrac (much much better offroad and snow in stock form)

on the sport you pay alot for a package with little return.

depends how deep or slick it is... if offroad in the snow (my driveway) and you hit a rut, your done. even with limited slip

my suburban with lsd used to get stuck all the time

    locked K5 no issues

i wouldnt venture to say "no advantage"

I haven't had any issues with it but I'm not a big fan of vsc. It may be because my tacoma has a bigger lift (resulting in it being more top heavy) but it comes on whenever I go into sharp, steep corners and when it does so it seems to make my tacoma go straight while I'm still trying to turn.

Yeah but it's it not a mechanical or electrical issue the vsc is doing what it is meant to do, it basically takes over while it thinks your losing control even though your still in control. Like I said I'm not a big fan of it at all.

I think lifting it probably brings the vsc on more often but I remember it did it even when the truck was stock. I just think it's a dangerous feature, your primarily driving but you have this feature that's trying to correct your driving and then your trying to correct it's corrections, ha ha.

    This is an easy decision.

If you want the hood scoop, color matched shit, and 17" wheels, go for the sport.

If you can live without the hood and don't care about chrome bumpers and grill, and want the locker just in case you might need it, get the off-road.

If you don't care about any of the above and just want a tacoma, get the base.

Look at the bottom of this page and see how many similar threads there are about this.

I have a DCLB sport 4x4 and love it! and i have gone places even my lifted fj40 friends and jeep rubicons couldnt go, i have done some pretty amazing rock climbing and mudding in my sport, sure i would love to have a locker but i plan on getting an ARB locker anyways. i put an OME 3" suspension lift on it and it is very offroad capable!. I just really wanted that longer bed since i do a lot of moving being in the military so that was essential, and i agree i hate the chrome shit and love the scoop. but either way you cant go wrong, tacomas are amazing trucks whatever year and model you get.
