Hello, new to the forum and I was looking through trying to find something on this but my searching seems to be lacking.

I have a 2014 TRD with a factory spray in bedliner. I have had the truck since it was new. I use it for truck stuff, hauling gravel, mulch, dirt and building materials.

The bed has a lot of scratches and a few small paint spots so it is looking a bit rough. I would like to give it a new look, can I just rattle can bed liner over the exiting after I clean it? Do I need to try to remove the paint, it is small spots and some streaks and it is on their good.

Is there a product that you have used that works better then others. Also the bed bolts were not sprayed and they have a tinge of rust on them should they be sprayed as well.

Any other options are also welcome. I am starting to do a refresh and mods on the truck and this is one of my first things.

Unless your dealer actually sprayed your bed with bed liner, you do not have a spray in bedliner. 2005+ Tacomas have a fiberglass/composite bed. Scratches aren’t going to come out.

You could touch up paint the scratches with something if you really want to hide them, or try and actually spray your bed with bedliner.

It won't hurt to add another layer of bedliner. Removing bedliner is almost impossible

Thank you I never new th
Thank you, I never knew that about the bed, I always thought it was a spray in type liner. Here are a few samples of what it looks like. It has been a great truck and has done a lot of working truck duties. I am planning on keeping it for a long time so it would be nice to keep it looking good.

I would probably throw an OEM bed mat in and call it a day. I’m not sure of a good way to remove the scratches in the composite bed. Or you could try hitting the worst areas with some black spray paint. Might be hard trying to match the same gloss/satin finish of the bed.

I've heard somewhere that spray in bed liners won't adhere to the composite beds. I don't know if this is fact or assumption. Might call your local Line-X, Rhino or other company and hear it from them.

Thanks, for the advice, I would be happy just to bring back the color and cover up the paint splotches. I am less worried about the scratches, a truck should wear those with pride. I was wondering if the bedliner would adhere, although the paint in the back is regular latex paint and that stuff will not come off. Maybe a paint refresh instead of bedliner, I may get a bed mat as well.

The bed mat is a must for sure.

The bed can be line-x'd if they follow the correct procedure. Pictures courtesy of @ardrummer292

It's a bit of an extreme solution to your problem, but it is possible.

It's definitely the most costly solution, but I'd argue that it's also the longest-lasting and most logically sound (from an engineering perspective). If you want some details, here's the relevant excerpt from my build thread:

Sorry to revive this from the dead, but I was going to ask a similar question and decided to search first. Took a while to find this thread, but unfortunately not a lot of good solutions above that I can tell.

Anyone have a good method for bringing these bed liners back to life? Certain product? Power washer? Flame thrower?
