Hi all, I bought a house this year. It was a flip, and needed extensive work by the contractor.
It came with a back yard sprinkler system, which I believe the contractor put in.
    -4 zones
-Controller is a Rainbird ESP Modular, 635675 Rev B
    - I forgot to check what heads I have, but probably not relevant right now

When I try putting the controller in test mode, the controller shows an error light and displays MV ERROR before looping through ERROR 1, ERROR 2, etc. I found the solenoids, and noticed that the one on the right is making slow (about 1 second) clicks. No water flows.

I looked at the wiring, and noticed that there's two leads that are bare wire, but they come from the same primary lead grouping of wires (sorry about my terminology, hoping that makes sense).

Does anyone have some knowledge of tests I can run through? I'm wondering if the solenoids are just bad.

It looks like White is your common ground. Red and brown are those two valves. Blue and green continue to another two valves.

It looks like there is a third wire going to the red which it should not have.

Have you manually turned the solenoids to test the water?

How I think it should be wired based on your pictures. Notice the unused red and brown going to bank 2.

    Congrats on the new house!!!

I had a cottage with a similar Rainbird system.

If the other ones are working, you can easily replace and rewire the solenoid in question. They’re not expensive and can be found at HD and Lowes.

Every season I would replace a solenoid or two if they clicked like you explained. My first year I had THE GUY come out - he was great in sharing knowledge and instructed me the path of least and cheapest resistance was just to replace them.

It took me way longer to get around to this than anticipated, I guess that's what home ownership is about.
I apparently had not turned the solenoid valves the correct amount.
I thought my master valves were open, but didn't realize the seller closed the valve to the backflow device so I wasn't getting water.
My controller was stuck in an error mode and needed a reset. I also found it needed another reset (there's a button in the back and a button sequence depending on what sort of reset you want to do). The vendor also said I'll probably need a new unit since mine is so old and prone to bugs

Unrelated, but I also had to re-point all the heads so they weren't spraying in my windows, my neighbor's windows, and watering my neighbor's lawn across the street. I still have to dig up half the heads so they don't have a 45 degree lean, and fill in trenches where they didn't lay enough dirt for the pipes.
