my 2017 Taco runs rough seems like it's misfiring.. It was at the dealer all day yesterday and thier diagnosis was because of the Electronic throttle "always looking" for fuel economy..Service guy told me it's Normal.. I think it's bullshit.. Anyone else get this.. bucking while driving up inclines in higher gears..?? Thanks..

It's a common complaint with only one known solution besides getting rid of your 3rd Gen Taco - GET THE Orange Virus ECM flash tune.

There are dedicated threads now for tuning both the automatic and M/T trucks.

    Good luck!

Oh and welcome to TW

Ask the dealer for a refund. Take it back 3 times for same fix and maybe you will qualify for your states lemon law. Document everything.

Ask them to open a case with Corp Toyota or you can call.

Yes.. Thanks Already thinking about that...Nothing like driving a new truck that you thought you would love and then start to resent it...The service guy told me they ran all sorts of tests and the truck supposedly runs perfect although they did acknowledge that the truck does do what I say it does.... he says they all do that.. I don't believe it

Well, believe it. All of our trucks are the same.
One min you are driving down the freeway, and you decided to gently overtake someone. You press a bit more slowly on your gas pedal, nothing, so you press some more and the truck bucks and jerks forward making a HUGE noise, as if you are gunning your engine like a teenager, and everyone around you looks at you like you are driving like a dick and calls you an *****.
If this sounds familiar, then welcome to the club. We all feel the same way as you do.
Bought a brand new truck home after years of waiting and feels betrayed when the new truck wears off.

Dude, Toyota told me faulty differential is "normal" I came back from Utah, actually still on the road. It feels like I'm towing a boat behind me. You have to use over 3k rpms to maintain 80 mph. It's howling.

Toyota doesn't care if you're at risk. It's a disappointing feeling when u get passed by a Ram towing a horse trailer on flat ground.

I just can't believe there is no check engine light on the way it's driving.. Although it starts fine. Idles fine it has a slight sputter in almost every gear...

I am so glad I joined her after I bought my Tacoma, or I would still be driving my Tundra or a ZR2. What the hell happened to Toyota. I guess I need to go check the garage and make sure the damn truck isn't on fire.

A couple of people mentioned Orange virus tune... Why would someone pay $800.00 to tune a new truck..??

It’s only a band-aid. Not a solution. Those some people do what they can to feel better about their truck
just like some of us who mod ours. Personally, I’m waiting for the SC next year :)

I agree it sucks that we would have to pay a third party to provide us a with a decent tune that makes your brand new truck driveable. How is reprogramming it not a permanent solution? its written to the rom so its not like pulling the battery will reset it back to stock tune.

I'll add a second option. It is a behavior that the ECU learns as it searches for the very edge of what it can get away with. Since it's learned behavior, you can reset it by unplugged your battery for a few minutes. I do it every few thousand miles but I have a manual so there is no transmission learning that I'm worried about losing.
