I had a chirp so I pulled the serpentine belt... and low and behold, a tear right down the center of it. About a month later I'm getting some chirp/squeaking noise again up front... I haven't had time to look at it until now but my thought is to look for play or notchy bearing rotation in the any of the pulleys with the belt off and replace if there is...

Anything else I should look out for?
    Thanks
    Cole

    KK, latest after tonight

pulled the serpentine belt, drove around the block and around the block again and it's still chirping...since nothing is rotating at that point I'm guessing it's the water pump...thoughts?
    Thanks

Is your truck a manual? It could be the clutch throw out bearing.

It is a manual...I'm starting to think it could only be the clutch or something near the cam chain. I've had thrust bearing go in a different vehicle and it sounded quite different but I'm not ruling it out yet. Talking with a Friend who's a Yota Mech. today. Ill definitely keep this thread up to date

Does the chirping go away when you touch the clutch pedal? If so its the throwout bearing. Mine does it too.

Drives me nuts. Replaced my last clutch at 30k miles because the TOB was chirping, now the new one is doing it at only 15k miles.

Toyota warrantied the new one but of course they don't deem the TOB chirp to warrant a clutch replacement until it actually fails and leaves me stranded somewhere.

Yup. Same here. They did it once and the sequel was back within 10k miles. Been that way for the last 40k. I'll replace it myself when I replace the clutch when it starts to go. Till then I just live with it.

IMO, a chirping TOB is a small cost to pay for having a proper manual gearbox. id take a chirper any day of the week versus a slushbox. Just me though.

OP- This! If you push the clutch in and it goes away, you've joined the squeaky TOB club!

It's the Throw out bearing! I put the belt in over lunch, started it, chirp chirp chirp and clutch in, gone, clutch out, it's back. Could repeat on and off. I'm going to replace the clutch friction plate and pressure plate while i'm in there...if anyone wants to see a write up I think I'll throw it together on a full start to finish clutch job. Thanks for the responses guys!

From what I have read, I thiink from URD, the chirping does no harm at all. It is annoying yes. Mine has been chirping for at least 50,000 miles. I have over 150,000 on that clutch now with no issues......accept a chirp.

I forget exactly what it was but I read somewhere that if the TOB gets bad enough it can break completely and that can cause serious damage (bell housing and flywheel? I can't remember what it was exactly). But I've heard of a lot of people just living with it chirping and having no issues other than the annoying sound, so it's probably not very likely that anything bad is going to happen. But when it's loud it's annoying as fuck, when I'm off roading it's especially bad. Echoes off of the walls and trees lol.

    Hey guys, update -

I'm replacing my clutch, throw out, flywheel, throwout assembly (updated assembly to help prevent chirp) and ah, coincidentally my rear u-joint this weekend. I think it's probably a good service to put together a proper video so this should only take all weekend!

another note...does anyone know where I can get the OE alignment tool for the clutch??

    Hey Guys,

quick update. I've learned a lot here and I'll post some pictures a little later...there are some serious design flaws and unfortunately it's just part of life that you have to deal with them. That being said I can point out some things to help the next fellow along when it comes time to replace the clutch...
