I first noticed this noise last week. Any idea what it could be? I'm at 82k miles. Could not upload a video. It stops after the truck runs for about 5 minutes and it's not a constant squeaky noise but intermittent.

What ^ said. Or idler pulley? If the noise, chirp, squeal etc., seems to be coming from the belt and/or idler pulley, you can check to see if the idler pulley has any play by trying to wiggle it. When the engine is off of course.

Post a video and try to see if it’s from the front or rear of the engine. My bet is on the high pressure fuel pump.

Remove the belt see if the noise goes away just don’t run the engine long enough to overheat. If noise goes away while belt is still off with engine not running spin the pulleys by hand and you should find the bad one.

    Video with audio would help.

Spray some belt dressing on the drive belt and see if the noise goes away. Even if the noise goes away, I would still change the belt.

If you think the noise is coming from the high pressure fuel pump, see if you also smell fuel in the engine bay. 2016-2022 Tacomas are covered for 10 years regardless of mileage on the fuel pump recall.

Or DIY ghetto it with comet powder- works! But unlike what some people do, I’d only do it to test- rinse it off and fix the real issue like a bad water pump or idler pulley as others posted above^^^

Edit: (I just remembered that spraying it with just a bit of water also sometimes works).

There are many ghetto DIY. Here is a guy using Old Spice deodorant. I did not originally post this video because I don’t like the idea of anyone having their hand close to a running fan.

Rubbing a little white hand soap from a soap bar on the belt sometimes works. Reduces friction and gives the belt some grip. If noise stops change belt asap. White bad soap does no harm.

Your mileage suggests it's the belt. Mine is also due and making the same noise on startup, but only when it's damp out... belt is slipping until it dries off.

Perfectly safe... just annoying and evidence that the belt is due for replacement. If you ignore it long enough, the belt could break. If that happens, I imaging your truck will go into limp mode... but I would recommend replacing it sooner than later and not risk the potential inconvenience of having it break at a bad time.

There have been a lot more high pressure fuel pump chirp noises than there have been belt drive related noises. We don’t really know what his issue is, especially not without a video and him listening closer to different areas under the hood.

That settles my nerves a little but :). Do you guys replace the serpentine belt yourself or do you have a mechanic do it?
