I told you I was heading up there several weeks ago and you said you were busy every weekend. I'll have to take a rain check on those beers you owe me.

Morrison was easier than anticipated. I felt like we cruised right up the switchbacks with very little spotting or challenges. Goose was a shit-ton of bouncy rocks with only a couple real obstacles.

That being said, I've never been up that way before and it was awesome to see some new country. It's really beautiful up there, especially at Goose. It was too bad is was so smokey, that took away from some of the views.

Yeah nothing hard about them Morrison is just intense on the switchbacks. Did the USFS move that big ass rock?

Goose is still probably one of my favs. Such a pretty area.

A fire just started on the 25th just north west of there so thats were all the new smoke is from..

No, that rock was still there. We talked to a guy contracted by the FS who was about to start working on it with a mini excavator. He told us he was instructed to clean the loose stuff off, and move bigger stuff off the road. After seeing that rock though, I am not sure he would be able to move it with what he had.

They said it's been closed since that couple died, we're pretty lucky we caught him and allowed us to head up before he started working.

Based on what he said, and the condition of the road, it would take him months to make it 'super easy'. I really don't think it will look that much different when he's done, and will probably look the same next year after everything rolls down the hill again.

Ha! That spindle still working? I should be at RT but haven't ironed out the details yet.

Completey redid the shock setup this spring. Here's probably the best post to see what I did.

Squeaky Penguin's (not much of a) Build Thread

Let me know if you want any other pics or have any questions. 2nd shock relocation was much more successful than the first.

Yeah spindle is perfect:) and good deal, hope to see you out there.

Holy fuck that shock setup is badass dude. Nicely done! I can see thats alot of work.... what made you mount the way you did vertical off the back of the axle? Vs. Say like this /\

What size shocks did you run? 2.5x10"? I was actually tossing around the idea again of getting a 2.5 out back, I like the solo outboard kit but don't want wheel spacers, but thinking a setup like you did would be best, I just have spare in stock location so idk if I can squeeze em in there

Several reasons. I suggest you read the 10-15 pages up to that post I just linked, as I spend a lot of time discussing the setup.

You loose control angling them. There's only two reasons I see to do that: 1)it's easier to fit the shock 2)all you do it crawl, want a longer shock, and don't care about higher speed handling.

Another thing to note, after cycling my leaf pack, and reading what others have cycled, I don't think any 1st gen pack using stock mounts will cycle more than 10" of travel. Any longer a shock is a waste.

    2.5x10"

Still skeptical of the effictiveness of an outboard shock setup without crazy offset wheels and super narrow tires. I have 1" between the tire and frame at full articulation.

Don't think there's room to have the shocks setup like I have and keep the spare under the bed.

I have pretty aggressive offset an running 10.5 tires lol, but the price for the solo kit always got me, an the style you did def has to be cheaper. But idk if the ride would be way better everyone I talked to says running outboard makes a huge difference. an I feel like it be close but def idk if they would clear, but I def want more dampening especially with all the weight. Will have to check out tom try n get a idea thanks for info

Outboard is more effective as its closer to the wheel thus closer to a 1:1 Ratio.

    That said...

fitting a 2.5 body outboard without a wider axle...not gonna happen without rubbing @Willbeck is running the solo kit with 2.5s and rubs them.

2.0s..probably be okay. But still need spacers.

I have the TC kit that i want to cycle and check on one of my trucks. Just haven't gotten around to it.

The other advantage to getting the shocks in board like Bretts is that the flex travel is a bit more. Not a lot..but the closer to the center of the axle the more the wheel can move vs shock travel.

Again your leaf pack will also be the main limiting factor of that.

Ya that makes sense, an ya every outboard setup I've seen has wheel spacers. An I just got aftermarket wheels not to long ago an took off the spacers so def not tryin to put em back on. An I hear ya on running a 2.0 outboard an would maybe work without spacers but I want The biggest shock I can put out back. I will prob just try to run inboard. I'm running ome dakar leafs

1:1 ratio of what? Articulation, vertical travel? It's important to differentiate. If you outboard you are closer to the tire, but you're also angling them way far forward to get them to fit. My shocks are a 1:1 ratio, more or less, for vertical travel, and a little less for articulation.

Of course which setup benefits you the most will depend on how you use your truck.

X2. Everyone should cycle their leaf pack before trying to come up with a shock setup.
