I hope not. That was a solid area. Top 10 campsites in my book too.

Sounds like the guys at GFC have is sorted, but yeah, it's more like middle school than high school in there. It's pretty ridiculous. I'm just posting about my experience and seeing what can be done or how we can more forward. I think those guys are doing more harm than good at this point.

Finally hopped on a computer to see these maps. Judging by the second link, where Bretts pano was taken, it looks protected by the Historic Mining Conservation Area. Just below the cliff there are still standing mining structures which I'm pretty sure no structures of any kind are allowed in Wilderness area. Its a bummer we cant get more detailed maps.

Salvaged my first attempt and got some hood bumpers installed. These ones have a threaded rod and are much easier to make work than the factory ones. Also got the steel pins in. Thinking I shouldn't have any more issues with this setup.

    IMAG0877.jpg

Other issue that came up during the trip was a coolant leak from my heater core return barb.

    IMAG0878.jpg

I may or may not have completely bent it taking the engine in and out several times. Bent it back best I could, but obviously that didn't work. Currently testing a wormgear hose clamp in place of the factory spring clamp. If that doesn't work not sure what will fix it, aside from replacing the heater core.

Also ordered a FTM-400. Now to figure out where to mount it, which antenna to get to finally make use of my NMO mount, how to get a license, and not the least of which - any clue how to operate an amateur radio. :anonymous:

Was looking for a spot to put the faceplace for the radio, and decided it was time to have an organization moment with all my electronics.

So now to figure out where to put the faceplate, garmin, tablet, ultragauge, and phone. :bananadead: Dash is too small... Was looking at putting it on the headliner or where the currently worthless review mirror is, but wondering if that will be annoying to operate. Thinking I'm going to have to put the main body in one of the cubbies in the back as I don't have anywhere to put that either.

Under the seat might be better for the radio.

I put a nice mount off the oh shit handle for a phone. And such. Some good ideas here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...nkensteins-helper.390488/page-8#post-13361430

Brett do you have a HAM test date lined up already or are you not that far yet?

I was thinking about trying to sneak in some study and an exam after spring semester ends this month and before my summer classes start up in late May.

I was looking at your setup the other day.

I have a sub under the drivers seat and an amp under the passenger seat and I'm disinclined to move either. Nor do I have a oh shit handle on the drivers side. :pout:

Haven't got that far. I did check and didn't see any up here, which I thought I had in the past.

Getting some shock work done here in a month or so, so might see if I can make it happen the same weekend.

If you don't have a handle all the better. The bolt hole in the a pillar will still be there. Just drill a hole in the plastic and you'll be good. Should fit better too as you won't need a stand off to have it clear the handle.

    Cool.

I seem to recall there being a pretty active club up here in FoCo that offered exams, but I haven’t looked into it yet. Not sure if that’s more or less out of the way for you if you’re hitting Tim’s.

Do you still need the Garmin and tablet? Seems redundant to have both mounted at the same time unless you're doing more with the tablet. You could also nix the ultraguage and use the tablet.

That's a good point. Can easily do GPS stuff with the tablet now with either Gaia or bcn.

    Thought had crossed my mind.

I like simple things that work well with minimal effort. Probably won't run the tablet all the time, and the gamin is simple and works better for non-trail navigation. Speaking of which I need to get my tablet situation sorted out - never quite got BCN figured out.

Ultragauge I could take or leave at this point, but it is nice to have at a glance, and doesn't take much room.

Phone can also be used in place of the GPS or ultraguage.

How often do settings need to be tweaked with ham? I think the mirror location would be a decent spot unless the mic has to hang off it.

Relocate switches to headliner and put it in the single din spot if it fits.

I have mine in the rear view mirror location. Reaching up to change channel/volume is not a big deal. If your going to be sending messages then it wound be better lower, but over all it’s really convenient to have it in line of sight

Bcn XE is easier but it requires a subscription. Being able to look at everything on a computer is nice for planning and what not. Then it's easily synced to the tablet. I think Gaia has had this for a bit now.
