So far the only potentially beneficial thing is the steering setup.

I know when I've read of 2uz swaps that the driver side exhaust is always a challenge.

I still don't know how you're going to get anything around the front diff.

    I can live with that.

You could try to roll new rods and mains in it now before it’s too late and they end up looking like mine. Still had oil pressure within spec and just a very faint knock under light load

I've been watching that ls swap series on YouTube, Brett doesn't need the turbo and it would make it less headache to some extent

At this point I think I'm just going to pick up a used engine, or do a more complete rebuild on mine.

It'll be interesting to see what the old bearings look like though.

If I swapped it I would want to do as cheap as possible. I was seriously researching a LM7 swap for a bit by way of buying a trashed old Chevy. Or those engines can be found quite cheap.

Mounting the engine would be the easy part though. Doesn't look like there's an adapter to use my trans, plus all the other custom shit that it would require. Then run into other issues like who knows is the diff would handle it. Then the 4.88s would probably be way too low. etc. etc. Not sure I want to go down that rabbit hole.

I've done a lot of research on doing an LS swap.

There are adapters out there for our tranny to an LS...but it costs more than buying the motor would haha which means you'd really have to go auto to keep it cheap. And Im guessing you're like me in the sense that going from a manual to an auto is not on the menu.

That said, CX racing makes LS mounts for our truck. Get an adapter for the tranny. Find an L33 all aluminum 5.3 V8, some basic wiring and probably a custom oil pan and you're in business. Still be about a 3-5k project no matter how you look at it.

Who makes an adapter? The advance adapters one only works on pre-95 R150s. I saw some out of Australia that may work though, but again, not cheap.

I actually wouldn't mind an auto, but I don't think it would be any cheaper by the time it's all said and done. Custom driveshafts, regear, lots of fab work etc. I also know nothing about the transfer cases that came on those and how/if they would work.

Every time I start thinking about this and adding to the list, the more I come back to just putting another 3.4 in and driving it.

Yeah there is an australian company, its like $1400 for it though haha

The auto there are transfer cases that would work but yeah you'd be in custom mount and driveshaft territory. Would be simplier for sure to just put another 3.4 in. Way less down time and more trail time.

    I have mods
For that kind of money, just stick with the 3.4 and turbo or supercharge it. Simpler and proven.

The easier and cheaper adapter is for a Toyota gear drive tcase behind a 4l60 instead of keeping the a340f.

But the correct answer is putting another 3.4 in. Way cheaper and easier

Doesn't feel like as much of an accomplishment knowing I'm about to pull the engine. :cookiemonster:

Only if I got a new one.

Currently research rebuilding the current one so at least I know what I've got. However, a rebuild kit from LCE, plus machining, plus whatever other little stuff I need would be at least double a used engine with 150k.

Or just horid it for when the used one blows..then put in the original rebuilt one...till it blows...then put in the other one...and keep doing that for the rest of your life or until the frame finally rusts through

I say rebuild the current. Buying used will be lots of unknowns. If you buy used you might as well do a 2jz or ls swap

$500 for a used motor that plugs n plays vs $5000-8000 for 2jz/ls plus lots of custom fab work......yeah numbers don't line up.

Id go with a used motor. We all know they are hearty motors and chances of something being really wrong is low I'd say. Risk? Sure. But also the fastest way to get the truck back on the trail.

Would you go for one of those JDM motors or a domestic, used engine?

You buying? I know I wouldn't even bother with a "built" motor when they take 10-12 psi just fine stock and used units are cheap and easy to swap out.
