What snowy said, borrow a plasma! I cut the brackets off my 80 axle with a grinder and a Sawzall and holy crap that sucked. Takes forever and lucky I still have all my fingers. My advice is to leave one of the upper link mounts on to build a traction bar off of, I ment to do that and cut it off by accident.

Is that a thing? Seems like delrin would make a lousy bushing.

^^^^That's what I started to type and then googled it. Who knew? We used to use delrin for axle sliders on supermotos. I would've thought it would be way too hard for a bushing.

If you are going with the FJ80 rear, I'll point you in the direction of my buddy's build and what he needed to do to go outside the axle.

I know the photos are blurry because photobucket is absolute shit, but you can view the pics if you open them in a new tab. Basically he notched the frame in order to get the clearance, obviously I know you can do it, but just wanted to send what it might end up being.

Hm. Haven't given any thought to a traction bar, but I guess it won't hurt to leave one there.

The ball joint seating issue? I'm not worried about it. Several other people are running them without issue, and I bet it's the exact same machined part they've been using in their LT kits a lot longer than the stock length lowers.

I was wondering about notching the frame, but that looks like more than I was envisioning.

We'll see how it plays out, my current setup works well, so probably just leave it alone.

    Yep, stock length.

Yep, I’ve been running derlin on my Dirt King lcas for 5 years now, they are basically solid, but last forever and never make a squeak. Only issue is they don’t like being twisted for alignment purposes, solid mounting them is a must imo.

Ok. But I'm going to have to insist that you quit transposing the r and the l in delrin.

Glad to see a few pictures of Jackson Hole. I live here! Do you remember where this phot was taken? Obviously NE of the Grand and due east of Jackson Lake. I’m guessing the Buffalo Valley area near Moran.

You're close, but a bit south of there.

It's a special spot I stumbled across, and not going to post the exact location publicly.

Great idea on a receiver mount location, just got to wrestle the heavy pig (my Kona 153 Process) up that. How are you liking the Giant? 27.5? I’m jonesing to get my Kona back down to the states and get a pilgrimage to Moab, it’s been too long....

Yeah, it's a Trance 27.5. I've been very happy with it. It's a Giant, so nothing too special, but I think it's a solid bike for the money.

There were a few other similar spec'd bikes I would have preferred, but couldn't find anything in my budget.

I was tempted looking at the Solo LT kit, but decided it's not where I want to head, at least with this rig.

I'll probably change my mind four time again, but I like the idea of SASing this thing a few years down the road, and putting the GFC on a 2nd gen access cab, which would get milder wheeling and DD duties. I'm kinda loosing faith in a do-it-all rig.

Jumped on the stock length lowers as I have some concerns with all the cracking in mine, and to help with tire clearance. And hey, I needed some new LCA bushings, so that's like $60 I didn't have to spend. :D I'll probably add some 1.25" wheel spacers to match the 80 rear, so the extra clearance will be nice. Also had a few extra dollars burning a hole in my pocket, so

Speaking of which, the axle in Denver turned out to be listed incorrectly, and a shitty semi float axle, so no-go on that. Closest one is in SLC and $650.. :pout: Probably hold out for a few weeks to see if anything pops us closer and for a more reasonable price.

You think you will still be able to avoid tubbing with that much of a wheel spacer?

Not sure. I'm going to pull the coilover and check though, and tub if necessary.

The LCA itself moves the LBJ forward like an inch, however, I might cut back on my caster adjustment via the cams in order to square up the bushings in the mounts.

Just going to have to play with alignment and stuff. Could consider a smaller spacer or no spacer, but I would like to have the width match.

With you ucas and lcas you won't be making you caster at all. Should get 4° almost with them straight.
