A 7.5” diff is not big enough for 37’s if you’re wheeling it. Can it live for a little bit? Maybe. Long term, absolutely not unless it’s a fire road cruiser that doesn’t get wheeled hard much.

Meh people said the same shit to me with the stock cv's when I moved up to 35's. I've broken 1 in the 5 years I have been on them, and I don't take it easy. What's the 3rd gen got, an 8" right? And they are on 40's on that setup now? The diff would be the least of my concerns compared to cv's and steering.

Anywhooo sorry to derail your thread for the millionth time Brett.

Since I just took a pic exhibiting this, like so. Just barely enough room in the wheel pocket, these are uncut ARPs on 1.25 spacers, on my 4Runner.

 For some reason I thought the .75" ones would not have their own studs, and cutting down the existing studs seemed odd to me (I was thinking the stock studs wouldn't be long enough if they didn't have their own) but that makes total sense. My 1.25" ones are almost flush to my spacer with stock studs.

I have the .75s in the rear and had to cut them down with the same ARP studs to not contact the wheel. The ARP studs would probably be long enough for a spacer without its own studs, but I don't think that would be a great idea and also not sure if anyone makes one like that :notsure:

I had to throw on some .75 wheel spacers to clear wheels with shit tires (don't want my wheeling tires to get too worn down during off season) but they are stock LC tires so they have a little space where the lugs can go without messing with the studs. But I've heard it's pretty regular to have to cut studs depending on the wheels

yeah idk about that. I know It'll likely keep me from doing 37s. Unless I figure out a way to shoe horn in the 2/3rd gen 8'' which has held up well with 37s. 40s I think is pushing it.

Also depends on your usage too I'm sure. Crawling puts on a different kind of stress than say flying down a road as fast as the suspension will allow. More constant possibly higher load vs constant shock loads.

    I agree 100%

I was trying out how to articulate this without sounding like a dick and you’re better with words than me apparently.

I was headed down a path of saying that if you’re running 40’s on 2nd/3rd gen IFS stuff and it’s not breaking, you aren’t wheeling anything you need 40’s for. Same goes for 37’s on first gen IFS. It’s not just R&P either, it’s the steering rack, the CV’s, the wheel bearings…

Guys don’t swap tons in when they do 40’s for no reason :)

The shit box lives, and still does some pretty cool stuff, who would have thought.

Including, but not limited to, adding dents, bending tie rods, and breaking CV axles.

How come the rock pile looks so underwhelming in the pics?

But yeah, truck did awesome on the 35s. Did a little trimming in the back but otherwise clear everything 100%. Just need my NWF box to show up now.

I know, took about a dozen pics and that one shows the whole obstacle best. This angle provides a bit more perspective to its size.

…looks at my broken longfield/inner axle shaft sitting on a shelf that exploded at idle on 37’s. Yeah that will be regular on 35’s lol

Yeah, and it wasn't too bad to change. Need to research an aluminum floor jack/DIY pro eagle or something like that to make it easier to change.

And not torque the CV nut excessively. :anonymous:

The problem was last time I installed it I gave it all the ugga duggas with my mid torque. Yes I should've brought that with me, but only had the M12 stubby.

I always assumed it wouldn't be too bad to remove with a breaker bar, but James guessed it was over 500 ft/lbs, and I believe it seeing him break it free with the cheater bar. I really don't think my mid torque should've got it that tight, but who knows. It's also been sitting outside in the snow for a long time.

So what I really should do is actually use the torque wrench I own and torque those to spec going forward.

You didn’t have Leo with you to do the work? Best part about blowing out my tire on the trail was you and Leo changing it for me :cheers:

    Leo helped.

I just need to dial in my setup a little better to be more prepared to change one on the trail again.
