That’s the downside to the nwf stuff unfortunately. Without an auto, I’d be unwilling to give up my 4.7x2.58 reduction. I use compound low a ton

That plus they're the same ratio. Would be nice to have 3 low range options.

I agree that it's not the best crawlbox solution, but didn't want to deal with TG/Marlin. One big advantage is the clocked rear case though.

Obviously Atlas is the best solution.

How did you end up with 2 different colors on your bed? I thought you just hacked a section out and put the tail back on.

I did, but then there was a welded seam covered in some of my finest hack job body work I needed to cover.

The rattle can came out for a temporary solution. I'm still planning on bedlining the whole truck eventually.

Good point on the differing ratios too.

Blank check and no time issues, Atlas is the answer but sadly that’s not reality right?

that case won't fit TG 4.7 gears?

You are running 4.88's though right? With the crawlbox are you at least able to clutch a lot less? I assume it's not going to ever be as slow as 4.7 low but I have to imagine it's a ton better than it was. I see the biggest advantage to the crawlbox is the little extra bit of traction you need on a steep granite climb, or super steep descents where you need the gearing to do the work because tapping the brakes will lock up and slide. I feel like if it was a let the clutch go and point and shoot it would not really be as enjoyable, not to mention you have less "feeling" as to when your tires/axles might be straining in a situation. These are all assumptions of course though. I feel like I use the feedback I hear from the strain in the motor to tell me what's going on up front.

NWF uses a planetary low range like the stock chain drive case, can't use TG or Marling 4.7s with them because those are made for a "conventional" gear drive case.

You are wrong about the point and shoot and you can't feel what's going on. If anything with double low you can feel more of what's going on and can stop what you are doing before you break something. It's weird to explain in words, if we ever wheel together you can drive my truck through a rock garden and you will see what I'm talking about.

Yeah, 4.88s. Don't think I stalled once on any of the harder obstacles where I would have repeatedly before.

Slander nailed it. It's not point and shoot. It's just way more controlled.

aren't there lower gear sets though for that setup? or am I still thinking of using the older gear driven cases?

The NWF was designed to specifically use OEM planetary gears. Only the stock ratio is available to use. You are thinking older gear drive.

gotta be only a matter of time before someone makes some gears then.

The only way I could see that happening is if they built a housing to accept the low range planetaries out of a jeep Rubicon, which are 4:1. Without getting too nerdy, it's much harder to build low range planetary gear sets than the old school gear drive cases.
