Can't imagine my sliders are air tight, that just seems entirely too complicated.

Airing up faster is not the main goal here, but while building a setup to run an air locker, I might as well build one to have other benefits as well.

I'm saying since the tank will be emoth between tires the compressor will run non stop for you to do your tires vs getting a break inbetween. Not saying it will make it worse. But it's possible.

The 90psi for a locker is the downer. Why I said fuck it and ran separate co2 for mine.

to drill and thread a hole? This is complicated after swapping out the LCA bushings???
    :cookiemonster:
Don't use the bent up trashed part, use the part under the body lip. If it leaks, weld it shut.

My compressor has no cutoff switch now, and it runs constantly when airing up tires. I think the 33% duty cycle says like 20 minutes on 40 minutes off.

OK, I'll help you swap LCA bushings and you can build my sliders into air tanks. What I was concerned about is making sure they're perfectly air tight. I guess on the main 2x2 structure, the only welds are the end caps, so it wouldn't be too complicated to track down leaks. But on top of that, how much air would they actually hold? Would also need to get some NPT taps I would imagine. A viair tank costs like $60 and has all the ports I would need.

well, with my limited math, I figure one of those 2x2's at 60" length is roughly 80 cubic inches, I am most certainly off with this. That is roughly over a third of a gallon of volume.
And air compresses so you can pack it in there.
    Was just an idea.
ACE carries the tap and fittings, run you under $20.00.

I heard the work Moab and found my way in here. Congratulations on graduating and believe it when the old guys say "every year goes by quicker" or "I'm going bald but my shoulders are getting hairy".

I have to ask why would he air up at the top of a pass?

OK. I'm going to attempt to improve upon your math, being you are indeed way off.

    • Slider body is 2x2", 1/8" wall (I think that's what Jerry uses), and 80"
    • 1.875x1.875x80 = 300 cubic inches
    • .004329 cubic inches to a gallon
    • 300x.004329 = 1.2987 gallons

I did the math for the Viair tank using these figures, and it appears that they measure out volume at atmospheric pressure. Might be worth a try. :notsure: Worst case scenario I just plug the hole in the slider. I would be a little concerned about having the locker solenoid down there though, would be rather exposed.

Valid point. Not enough air to compress at high elevations. Maybe at sea level I would be faster than you :cookiemonster:

Also, If I would have aired up quicker there I wouldn't have caught my loose diff drain plug....

LOL. Thanks bud! Luckily, I have a healthy head of hair. And yes, Moab sounds very temping where there's not much wheeling left around here.

And on our last trip, James and I aired up at the top of Cottonwood pass, where it transitions to pavement. The compressor took probably about 3x longer than normal up there. But you're right, not very often you're airing up at the top of a pass.

Excellent, was a test to see if you had actually earned that degree.
As far as the solenoid, mount it somewhere else.

And a few minor build thread updates: Got a new, proper Hi-Lift for Christmas so the garage sale hi-lift of death has been retired. Also, swapped the lighting to all old-school Halogen thanks to some Hella 500 black magics from @sean266 and some Piaa 510 Ions from @09blacktaco. Not as many lumens as the LED setup, but good reflectors make for much more useful light output.

It's sitting in the garage. Took it off to haul a motorcycle and its been too cold to put it back on. Honestly, the truck looks better without it, but it's so practical I couldn't live without it. Being I wasn't camping and didn't need much gear, I didn't miss it this trip.

I've been called worse, but if you read the report we turned around at the climb out due to time, poor conditions, and not knowing if we would be able to make it up and out.

Pile of parts for spring work is starting.

Picked up a set of spindles so I can get my TC spindle gussets all set without dismantling the truck. Also I have a set of Tundra calipers on the way, so I'll cut up the dust shields to fit those. Will also be adding wheelers brake lines, but am undecided on pads and rotors for now. Not going to be getting to this for a couple months probably, but I'll have a set of spindles and some EBC sport rotors for cheap available when I do. Going to pick up some axles from CVJ as well and that should freshen up the front end nicely.

Also, getting beat up chasing James has me putting proper suspension higher up on the list, still falls behind regearing though. For that, I've more or less settled on 4.88s and sticking with the same size tires. Far too many negatives for going 35s for my purposes. In fact, I'm a little concerned about potential clearance issues with the 295s when adding UCAs and moving the top of the spindle back as is. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

They're off of @bayareataco 's rig. Should be perfect candidates for spindle gussets.

No, but I do sleep back there all the time, and have considered a sleeping platform. When I'm on a longer trip, besides camping gear all that's in the back is my toolbox full of truck stuff (spare parts, fluids, various ratchet straps, larger tools, etc.). Normally, I just turn it sideways and sleep between it and the wheelwell, but that doesn't leave a lot of room. It's nice to remove it, but that does take an extra set of hands as it's quite heavy. I've always wanted a way to store all that junk and create a better place to sleep at the same time.
