This is new to me. So you put your truck in 5th and crank it over and it tightens it down close to spec?

Not quite, he put it in fifth to hold the crank, then torqued it with a wrench.

Glad you guys got that sorted out. I was a bit preoccupied shoveling my truck out from roads I shouldn't have been on.

Floating on top of settled snow at like 8psi. Look at the sign

    Surprising floated pretty well....

.... enough so to get me further back and into worse situations. Got stuck here, made it to the dirt, turned around, and got stuck again:

Made it back out though, only after getting stuck a few more times.

Engine is running perfect after the timing belt/water pump work. Did see temps hit like 203 on the highway though, not sure what that's about :notsure:

Did they not use to? I think mine will run about 220 pretty regularly.

I don't consider that too warm per se, but it was rare it would get above 200. Liked to hover at 194. Just somewhat surprised to see that especially after cleaning so much mud out of the radiator.

Enough to make it a lot of fun!
Don't feel bad about getting stuck. I took the 18 island road last Monday and got really stuck. I made it all the way to the parking lot and then just sank. The top layer was all ice and then wet snow.

The new motor runs in the same range. I do watch my temps like a hawk. It just because it's still a new motor to me and I'm a tad nervous. I'm pretty sure it's normal temps tho.

Do the first gens have an actual temperature gauge? I think mine just has the un-scaled idiot gauge (H/C).

If you have an ultragauge or scangauge it has an engine temp readout.

Mine has never gotten above 197 from what I've seen. And that was in the middle of July in New Mexico.

I have a bluetooth OBDII and Torque Android app. Would that tell me the temperature or do I need a different sender in the engine block?

    You are my Tacoma hero.

Seriously. That picture next to the sign is nuts. I don't press the like button on principle, but I like that picture.

That's what I use. Well the iPhone version. It gives me the coolant temps.

Did you get to shovel out too? I learned that not following my old tracks and going really slow helped me stay on top of the firm layer.

This. I have an ultragauge I'm reading off. Not sure where that pulls temperature off of though? And yeah, the factory temperature gauge doesn't seem that useful. Mine stays dead center inbetween about 170 to as hot as I've ever gotten it.

I won't like your post in support of your principles, but thanks man! :p Nuts would be an accurate description. I was putting along just hoping I didn't suddenly sink to the frame. Probably not the smartest thing to do, but hey, fun was had.

Hoping you decide to bring the much cleaner version of my truck to Moab. I'd love to see it.

Ya I got to do a lot of shoveling. I got across the cattle guard and I just sank. I was also trying to come-a-long my way out. It helped me for a while but I ended up havin to call my cousin. I was going to be there a while if I hadn't.

I tried to do that same thing one time in my '97 4Runner, but was so inexperienced at the time I didn't even air down. I sunk it right to the frame and spent hours shoveling snow with a little folding shovel before some help came along. At the time I was thinking we would have to spend the night out there.

You go on some fun adventures, for sure.

I "liked" this post because of your principles.

I don't like the foolishbook, but I have an even stronger aversion to principles.

......also, it was a good opportunity to crap on @homealone's build thread which is sort of a hobby of mine.

3 and 5/8" although 3 and 3/4" would probably work too.
