It came with something like that, but I haven't tried it yet. I don't think it will prevent what I'm talking about though. Might be better if my tablet happens to be a little smaller. Once you compress the two sides quite a bit, the spring pressure is pushing on tablet, but not each other like in a static position. So it can now rotate the whole width of the open slot.

I was reading about it, and it's just how it works, and there's some easy things to try to prevent it. Or, maybe it won't present an issue at all in application.

Haven't gotten there yet. Need to do some more research on android apps for that.

 

Yeah it's worth the research. HEMA is getting there but they still need some revisions for the US market. They are the #1 app in AUSTRALIA but needs another update for the US. I do like it's potential.

I haven't stepped up to nav in the truck yet. But I use Gaia on my phone when we are out hiking to little blue dots, works well for me and can be used in airplane mode.

 

I used GPX viewer when I had an android phone. Still lost in the iPhone game...

 

You can run leadnav. Best offroad nav tool there is.

But because you're an apple worshiper you get to pay to play for that haha

 

Lol Leadnav is pricey. $20 up front I think plus yearly map subscriptions I think now idk.

 

I checked it out and like the looks of it. I'm going to wait to pull the trigger on an app that provides large downloadable files until I get a tablet. I don't need to be carrying that around on my phone all the time.

How much trimming is required to run that tire setup with no rubbing?

 

A lot. Everything short of tubbing really.

I've cut off a majority of the wheel liner, most of the pinch weld, bottom edge of the fender and flare, and the little tab thing at the front of the fender. I've also taken a 5lb sledge and beat the firewall back about as far as it will go, as well as a few spots in the top/front of the wheel well that were rubbing. Washer fluid reservoir relocation is necessary too. I also had to cut the fender and flare on the front edge of the rear wheel wells.

 

How big of a pain in the ass is it to run a camper shell and a tire swing out? I am looking to build on on my rear bumper. Any ideas or assistance would really be appreciated. Pictures or links would be amazing! Thanks

 

What are you concerned about being a pain in the ass? Not really any different with a topper than without.

I didn't make my rear bumper, but I have messed with it quite a bit. There's lots of people much more knowledgeable than me than swingouts. One thing I will mention, is start with a hinge and work your way out. I had a typical trailer spindle setup and it broke. Now running an 1.25" grade 8 bolt as my pivot with bronze bushings pressed into a piece of DOM tubing. Problem here is my bushings are shot after a year and half or so. Only $10, but a bit of hassle. Some of the other fab shops on here have had success with single sheer spindles, not sure where they're sourced from.




One thing I would strongly consider, and might do at some point to mine, is make it a dual swingout. Adds cost and complexity, but less stress on the pivots. When I'm loaded up with my heavy spare tire, and 10 gallons of gas, it really sags and pulls that whole side of the bumper/frame/truck down with it when open.
