I would like to get added to the next batch and I am also willing to pay the $30 to help offset the trial and error. :)

    Keep up the great work!

Brave man! I like it! I’ll add you. I am hoping to know if the resistors are needed soon (they weren’t on my truck, but that is a sample size of one), so I think those should offset the costs of the new design.

    Hey everyone,

I've had my 2020 SR5 for almost a year now, and I've been wanting LED's since day 1. I'm finally getting ready to pull the trigger on the headlights (I prefer the OEM over Aftermarket), but just found out about these required harnesses. I've found some harnesses online (like the Morimoto brand) and they do not come with resisters. I'm seeing that the resisters are there to prevent issues with the DRLs and Hyperflash. I watched a video on youtube, but they installed the headlights on their TRD model (no resisters or controllers on the harness set up). Does the TRD trim already have a system in place to prevent the hyperflash and DRL issues? I will be honest, the idea of having to install resisters doesn't excite me, but if its something that needs to happen I will do it. Any info/help is greatly appreciated!

The TRD models came with different headlights, which included an LED DRL. So they came with different connections altogether. The kits you see at most any vendor website converts TRD to full OEM LED only, they don't cover SR/SR5 that I know of. I don't know but I would assume the TRD came with a different flasher or a built-in resistor as well.

What @907rx7 said. The wiring is different on the TRDs (and so is the ECU controlling DRL function). The V2 build of these I have tested did not need the resistor. I am still building them to accept one just in case though. The resistors I was using wasn’t a 6Ohm, it was a much smaller resistor. The Morimoto harnesses you looked at are either made for their lights or for the TRd models. The reason a controller is needed for the SR’s is it needs some added logic to separate the DRL from the turn signal. Aftermarket ones build that into their headlights, or they circumvent it and hook the DRL to the ignition or something like that. So the DRL lights are on all the time. With these, the stalk switch still controls the DRL, so they turn off and dim when they should.

Once again. @907rx7 nails it! :) The OR (all the TRD ones that originally come with the LED DRL, the "L" shaped white DRL) have separate leads for DRL and turn, so no additional logic needed. @daveeasa is on a freshly-ground-coffee-from-a-modded-coffee-grinder-fueled bender whipping those things out, hit him up!

Lol, I'm sure I'll find a new thing to over research in the near future and won't be stalking all of your and Dave's threads as much.

Stalkers are always welcome. Let me know if there are any questions, but it seems you have a pretty good idea what's going on as is :)

I’ve got an SR looking to switch my headlights to the OR headlights. I’m stupid when it comes to wiring, which harness should I get?

OK, time for a long over due update. I haven't given up on these. I am just fine tuning a couple of things (wiring length, relay mounting, programming controllers in batches so the delay matches). I have begun assembly of the harnesses, and ordered the mounting hardware. I will have the timers programmed by the end of the weekend. So these are coming soon. V2 batch 1.1 will ship for the same price, and include resistors. I do think that we will find the resistors not needed, in which case I will happily pay return shipping and find something creative to do with them. If I am wrong and resistors are needed, then I will most likely have to change the price accordingly. But we shall see. Anyway, I just wanted everyone to know what was going on, and thank everyone for their patience.

Just quick technical note that Francis has an OffRoad so his harness is a “simple” one compared to SR/SR5 which require puppypunter <tm> DRL logic injection.

I am a bit lost as I have been reading this thread ever since its started from last year. So if im not mistaken, the new harness that you made is just plug and play for the SR5? I am selling my TRD OR headlights coming from a 2021 OR to a friend of mine that has a 2020 SR5, the harness will just be plug and play? Or is there more wiring needing to be done.

We talked in PM's, but figured there may be others with this question. For SR to TRD (the ones that the headlights are still halogen, as opposed to the full OEM LED ones), you will need this:
SR/SR5 to TRD headlight conversion harness | Tacoma World

Also, a quick update. I am almost ready to start shipping V2. It will be this week, I just want to do a little more testing with as large of a sample as I can right now. I have discovered an small oddity. The turn signals are generally fine, but will hyperflash off and on for no discernable reason. Same headlight, same harness, same truck. I can turn on the turn signal, and all is fine. Then, 3 seconds later, do it again, and it may hyperflash. For this reason, I will still include the resistors. Unfortunately, the price will have to reflect that. So the first batch of V2 will still go for the promised price of $150, but I am going to be asking for $170 going forward. But as to the first batch, watch for PMs this week.
