Go with a ARB locker, its the best DD option as many have mentioned. With the SR5 having a larger rear end, you will end up with be a stronger, locked rear then the factory e locker, and you will also have on board air. :D

Yeah Toyota moving to an electronic "autoLSD" was a fail. It doesn't work in 4lo. Totally open diffs. Complete bull.

Not sure how it works in 4WD, but it works and it is not a fail. I have found it almost feels like your in 4W low when I have used it...

You can mod that electronic junk to have some extra traction but, on the end, iTraction Is not made for snow/ice.

IMO it is head and shoulders above the electronic system that 09+ tacomas use, (not that toyota's system is bad it actually works pretty good). The TruTrac is a true mechanical limited slip and kicks in very quickly without having to hammer the gas. There are no clutches to wear out. I used it in mud, snow and over rocks and definately worked better than the electronic system. If the op is really in need of a locking diff then as far as I'm concerned the only system to go with is ARB due to the fact that you activate it only off road in sections that you abosolutely need it.

You mean the yellow wire mod? That's for adding TRAC to 4lo. If that's what you did, why would you do that if you have a TRD OR?

With a 4wd, it works just fine in 2wd and 4hi. But in 4lo, autoLSD and TRAC turn off entirely. In the most critical 4lo conditions, Toyota hobbled their non-locked / non-ATRAC'd trucks. Think about it - 2005-2008s have mechanical LSDs that aid in every setting. Why would Toyota take a step back?

Like most things, I'm sure it was all about the money. As of 2012, all vehicles sold in America are required to have traction control (TRAC in all models of Tacoma). And the autoLSD essentially uses the same components. For the beancounters, it probably made perfect sense. But it hobbles the truck compared to it's predecessors. That is unless you're willing to snip wires to get TRAC (but not the autoLSD .. unless there's another mod I've never heard of) in 4lo.

AFAP lol. Yeah it is true that TRAC is all 4 wheels. But TRAC also saps engine power which the autoLSD doesn't .. though in the V6 there's plenty to spare. I'm also thinking Toyota might have done this to move more TRD Off Roads. Because an SR5 with the mechanical LSD was a kickass truck for 95% of all uses .. no need to spend thousands more. Personally I think a mechanical LSD is a much better choice in the snow too.
