Has anyone added upgrades to their SR5?

I picked up some oem OR skids plates off a quy who upgraded to after market skid plates. He just got back from Moab and has been offroading for awhile.

He gave me a list of ideas.
    Shocks
    Tires
    After market locker

What have people done to their SR5? Is it worth it to throw money at it or would a trade in for a OR be best?

I wouldn't consider trading in for an OR - that's just a waste of money. You can pay a shop to add aftermarket lockers for less than that cost, and the aftermarket lockers are objectively better than the factory lockers... Plus, if you have to ask whether or not you need lockers, you don't need lockers. Go offroading, you'll be shocked what your factory SR5 can do. I have no trouble keeping up with the locked ORs when I go offroading.

I've thrown tons of mods at my SR5: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hammerhead-the-4x4-dclb-tow-and-trail-rig.671016/ - tires, suspension, all armor and bumpers, camper, racks, etc.

I'd start by doing tires - 255/85/16 is a great size and will be what I go with when my tires wear down. There's good reading on that here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/put-255-85-16s-on-stock-or-wheels-and-suspension.491079/

Planning on doing any wheeling in your rig? If so, what kind of conditions you going through? Factory skids provide minimal protection

Like mentioned above you can get a front (not on the ORs) and rear locker cheaper than buying a OR. Good luck with the build

I got an SR5. I figured as stated that if I want a locker, there are better lockers to be had for not a whole lot of money. I may still do that down the road, but I haven't so far. Also as said, you may be surprised with what your SR5 will actually do.
For offroad use, I went with bigger/better tires, 5100s all around, OME heavy leafs, and good sliders. I plan on getting an OEM TRD skid plate (it is sturdy enough to do everything I need it to) and I'm waiting for my winch mount to get in. I'll be adding OME coils up front when that comes in to manage the increase in weight from the winch, mount, and dual battery setup.

It does everything I need it to do, absolutely zero regret getting an SR5.

Although i do need a roof rack for the canoe...and a new CB...and maybe another audio upgrade...and...

My mods so far are TRD off road suspension swap, add a leaf in the rear(2in), 2" spacer up front, Winch brush bar, Flux capacitor (switch relay box) extra lights, obo tucked into the bedsides, 255/85/R16 tires, rock sliders that double as extra air tanks, and a brake controller

Thanks. Buying a tacoma is like opening pandoras box. I am always going to be chasing the next part or mod. I do like the idea of building out my own set up over time. The SRD has been a solid purchase. Glad I pulled the trigger.

Went all in on the mods on mine, but knew I was going to mod so that’s why I went Sr5.
