went with the OR. Not interested in the SR “extras”. Inventory is LOW thanks to the C virus.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I’ll be on the market for another truck in ~25 years.

Not yet anyway. Our forever place is in the mountains and I’m afraid I’ll be dealing with that eventually.

I’ll probably buy a junker front wheel drive car for salt season.

And don’t forget about resale value. When you go to sell your Off Road you will have no problem finding a buyer and will hold its value a lot better than a SR5. Any difference in cost now will be made up whenever you decide to sell it.

The MSRP is only about $1800 apart in the same configuration, what could be going on outside of them discounting the OR a few hundred bucks more?

    Example:
    SR5 4x4 DCSB AT - $35,190
    Sport 4x4 DCSB AT - $36,965
    Off Road 4x4 DCSB AT - $36,965

Maybe it depends where you live. Trd or tacos don't hold their resale any better here than sr5 after 5 years. In fact those try's can be harder to sell due to buyers figuring they get beat more. Sr5's are known more of a asphalt taco. I had no problem selling my 01 tundra than a friend i know that has a trd 01 with way less miles on the odo thats had his for sale 2 years now. Both trucks were/are in very good shape. Trying to get $2k more for the trd ain't cutting it.

So what your saying is a same year with similar miles SR5 will sell for the same price as an Off Road model? I find that VERY hard to believe and the book value says otherwise.

Oh, and your talking about Tundras? Nobody buys Tundras to fix up and take off road so yeah, I can believe there isn’t too much of a difference in price between a SR5 Tundra and a TRD Tundra. TRD Tundras have basically a TRD sticker on them. No locking diffs or anything that would really help you off roading. A Off Road TRD TACOMA is a whole different animal.

I don't think it matters if it's an SR5 or an OR, the depreciation will be comparable between models. Obviously the resale price will be different between the models since the original MSRPs are different. For example if both depreciated 80%, they are worth an equal amount used compared to their original MSRPs. You'll get more for a used OR, but you paid more to begin with. It's just semantics.

Yeah the Tacoma followed that trend from the Tundra, there is a pretty large thread on it here somewhere.

That's why I went with a two wheel drive SR5. It was a hit to my ego, but realized living in Norcal, I didn't need an OR or 4 wheel drive. A two wheel drive truck would be plenty for hauling baby diapers. I'm glad I went this route, now every time I see a shiny OR in the Bay Area, I wonder how many are actually used off road compared to just used as an ego booster

They don’t depreciate the same. That is the issue. The Off Roads hold their value more as they are more in demand. So when you go to sell it you will loose less money than you would when selling a SR5 which depreciates more.
