I am trying to understand what the Stage numbers mean (i.e. Stage 1 through Stage 7 lift kits) on lift kits.

I have run a search here on TW hoping to find some understanding of the meaning of the term Stage and then the number. And no dice...I see nothing...I see some of the obvious differences in the Stage 2 to the Stage 3 on some of the kits available, but I am trying to wrap my head around the significance of the running numbers so I have an idea of what would be right for my application.

I do not plan on adding extremely large tires and wheels, would like a little more round clearance for my body to the ground, adding some weight to the front and back of the truck (hidden winch on the front, steel bumper on the rear, sliders and full set of armor), so, I would like to level the truck, support the extra weight and get the truck just a few inches higher from the running gear....

Thoughts? And definitions (explanation) would be greatly appreciated. I am sure there must be other people that would like to have a better understanding of this nomenclature.

The stage number is entirely arbitrary and specific to the manufacture in question. However typically the lower the number the closer to stock an offering is.

Or the higher the stage number the more buck-a-roos it is. ;)
