While driving my 03' 3.4 V6 yesterday, it began surging and stalling like it was not getting fuel. I am wondering if my fuel pump is going bad. I notice this problem mainly as I am shifting into a higher gear, it is like I have no throttle response as soon as I let the clutch out. I am going to replace my fuel filter and check for some obvious things, but I am curious if any of you have had the same problem. If my fuel pump is bad, I would like to diagnose it (if possible) before dropping my fuel tank. Any ideas?

Usually when my fuel pumps would go they would just go. No warning it would just start sputtering for a minute and then it was done so if you are still getting fuel it should be good as far as my experience has dictated.
A few items to check that I've seen be a problem:
Air Filter is clogged or sucked right into the intake
Carbon build up on throttle bodies or spark plugs
    Fuel filter is clogging up
Sensors are giving false readings and need to be cleaned. Main one is the MAP on the air intake.

Good luck man. Diagnosing issues is no fun.

You guys nailed it. I replaced my TPS and discovered a bug mashed on my MAP sensor... no idea how it got past my air filter though. Runs like a top now. Thank you both for your feedback!!!

This is actually the first fuel injected vehicle I have ever owned... These sensors are new to me, glad I have support from TW members.

if you aren't careful taking the old filter out, often trash falls in behind the filter location so the new filter goes in leaving that crap on the wrong side.

make a habit of checking for stuff in there before just putting the new filter in

Good to hear it worked out.
Sensors are the baine of my existence some days but they do help some of these new fandagleded vehicles run really well.
