Hello, I have a 1997 Tacoma with the 3rz and I have swapped the cab for one of the same yeah that is far less rusted and damaged and I have replaced quite a lot of parts and I have hooked it all back up and all lights work, I have spark the truck does start and idle for maybe a few seconds and then stops I have replaced the fuel pump and the fuses and relays for the pump and I’m not sure why it’s not holding the idle.

Put a mechanical fuel pressure gauge on it and verify it's getting pressure to the rail when it tries to idle. Certainly sounds like a fuel delivery issue if it runs then dies. But I wouldn't rule out the crank sensor.

Is the ICV hooked up and operating? That could certainly do it. Or a massive vacuum leak.

Update so i bypassed some stuff in the ecu and made it run nicely but i have to I think replace the ecu entirely, would it be more worth it to covert to a standalone and if i do will i need to change wiring harness?
I have ruled out the crank sensor as I have replaced with one from an part out and then a brand new one, I don’t have a fuel pessure tester but I have a feeling it’s a problem with the ecu. I’ve checked for leaks and it doesn’t seem to have any. I’ll look into the ICV when I work on it tomorrow

I have seen/I have smashed a few pigtails dropping in an engine….or in your case the entire cab

I’ve replaced the ignition coil and igniter, I’ll look into the CTS when I’m back there tomorrow and could be a ecu problem because it won’t run codes

    Ok
    Can’t find by searching
But IIRC, dude had no codes and turned out the ignitor wasn’t putting out enough spark
    Mute pt if u RR’d

So can’t read codes….no communication with obd code reader?
    Or no codes popping?

I have replaced the igniter already. Perhaps the on I bought is no good but not sure. It has no communication with the code reader. I’ll take a bunch of pictures in a hour or so

I ran a wire from the ecu to the circuit open relay under the dash and it fired up so I had to pull the ecu out and test and trace the wires through the dash to find the problem wire, splice in the new one and make a new ground under the dash.
