Howdy, I'm new to this forum but not to the 4x4 world. I stopped by a Toyota dealership thats about 10-15 miles from the Toyota truck plant out here in San Antonio, TX. I said I'm interested in a Reg. Cab Tacoma 4x4 auto in white. The saleman did a "computer search" and said the closest one like that was in Oklahoma and it was marked as sold. He then said my only options was the stealership do a "Boss exchange" for the truck and that would take 4-6 weeks or to order it and that takes 4-5 months. Sounds fishy to me. What do y'all think? BTW... I'm glad to be here.

They exchanged for mine...it took two days. It was from san Diego to los Angeles though.
    Welcome to tw btw.
I think the reason they said 3-4 weeks is cuz they have to work out a swap that works for both stealerships.could only take a week if they both have something the other wants.
    Good luck.

Not fishy, most trucks coming off the line are already assigned a delivery location. It's not so easy to break the chain and pull one off the line. The purchase orders to each respective dealer are made months ahead respecting each dealers sales history and prediction of future sales.

Welcome to TW. I will not say they are lying, but they are not working too hard for you either. My dealer did an "Exchange" and had my truck in two days. Like you, I wanted white, but my magnetic grey looks awful good sitting in my driveway You can help yourself if you are open to other colors, not just white.

I ordered one off the line with a hard configuration. Arguably hardest to find and most dealers I went to said impossible.

Spruce mica access cab, TRD Off Road v6, 6 speed, tow Pckg, DTRL, all weather flooring (not mats). Ordered it March 2, delivered April 30. Was quoted 6-8 weeks up front for a special order (Baltimore is a long ways from San Antonio).

All this info is to show they could be full of shit, but with the end of the model year production line coming wht they say could be true. I shopped around for a while before someone would do it. Good luck, and I will email supporting docs to you if you need them, to be held in confidence and redacted of course :)

It sounds like they might be over exaggerating a bit. I had to order my TX Pro from the factory as well. They told me it would take 4-6 weeks, and in the end it took about 8-10 weeks.

I too ordered my truck back in october. The dealer i used here in DFW area is the largest around. It was a 4x4 spruce mica dcsb sr5 with tow. They told me 4 weeks and it arrived in 8 days. I originally wanted a long bed but was told 3 months... so i decided to go with short bed since im a little impatient. I wouldnt think a white truck would take too long to get since they produce that color more than any. However when we get complicated im sure it takes them longer to produce what we want. I will say that my salesperson "Sarah" went above and beyond. Now she is my service advisor at same dealership.

Best way to tell if they are lying is to see if their lips are moving! But some salesmen are better than others and willing to work harder than others.

As long as your request is reasonable and well within limits of normal production as the OP's is, I would just use the phrase "Well, I'll see what another dealership up the road can do" if they display any lame attitude about you not wanting what they have laying around or start busting out with the use of the word can't. Just walk if they seem to lazy about making a sale. That is what they are there for so drop a nice polite fuck off on them as you go to another dealer that is glad to help you get what you want while they get what they want, which is another vehicle sold.

Mine was exchanged from a dealer in Seattle. It took about 2 days to get here. Not a big deal. I'm betting the guy was bullshitting you hoping you would buy one out of his inventory that day. He was probably just being lazy.

Wow!! It's been a good while since I've been here. Well I finally broke down and ordered my Tacoma in the 2nd week of January and it came in this past Friday. Exactly as I wanted it. I'll post up pics as soon as I can.

I cant say, but when I bought mine, my local dealer said there wasn't a truck in the entire southeastern region packaged the way I wanted. Hell, they didn't even have a 4x4 on the lot at the time. Of course they still tried to push a truck that I didn't want on me. The whole time I already knew that the exact truck I was looking for (the one I have) was sitting at their own sister dealer (same owner) which was about 1 1/2 hr drive away. They did say they could transfer a truck but there wasn't one around that I wanted. I was done and just made the drive to get mine instead of fooling with these dipsh#ts.

Funny part is, when I bought mine it was past closing time so it didn't get detailed. They arranged for the other dealer (the 1st one) to detail it for me the following day since it was close to home. Part of the particular truck I wanted was the bluetooth. So the next day as me and my wife pulled out of the dealer from getting detailed the salesman from that same dealer called (through the bluetooth) to tell me they had a 4x4 on the lot and wanted to know if I was interested.

Point is they may be trying to push what they have on their lot.
