    I know ARB, for their front bumpers at least, have crush sections so that they maintain DOT compliance but not sure on their rear bumpers or other manufactures for that matter. In the event of an impact, a steel bumper would transfer more of the impact force directly to the air bag sensors since it is far more rigid than the factory stamped steel and plastic bumpers that they come with stock. That being said, I have personally been involved in accidents while having my steel bumpers on and the airbags didn't deploy.
