    This is going to be a nightmare, if its even doable for me--. I have a 95.5, it was 13th Tacoma SR-5 off the line, in Santa Clara, in Ca, In May - 1995. Many mods I have put into this Taco. I'm looking at, the connections leaving the back Clock Spring, old vs Mod, into the my electrical harness, 2 connections, 1- Air Bag, 2- the CC wires its like Day & Night, concerning the electrical connections. Whole diff Ball game from 95 - 98. Not really into Auto electrical work- but maybe, just maybe there is a work- around.....It would be 1 Bad Ass Mod for the 1st Gen TACO''s 6b833927-9425-4aeb-b8c7-de0131593b9c.jpg

    Hey, COMAtized99

    I was looking for my second truck of my young journey, in life, 1st one was a Datsun 1600 pk up truck, love those little trucks. Anyway found an add up in a town called Sacramento, Ca a middle age couple had just moved there from the Bay area, l recall the father had worked at the plant there in Santa Clara as a Line Sup, he had been there a while, making toys, and when the Tacoma’s SR5’s came off the line he of May of 1995 he pick one out, for his daughters 18 birthday and said this was the 13th one. Anyway she trashed that truck, not a good transportation vehicle for a woman, just starting out in her life, had a canoe, loved to go to the lake up there. She drove it for a few years. In Feb of 1997 I bought it for 15 grand…. Also it only had 15 thousand miles on it/ had some moderate damage to the front suspension. All is good now IMG_4855_LI.jpg Tacoma .jpg ;)

    “Was just walking by one in the junkyard, spotted it, removed it and the clock spring andharness to the radio.”

    @wesb1023
    I saw your mod and decided to give it a try since I like the OEM look that it gives the truck. I went to my local junk yard, found a sienna with all the right parts but got lost when trying to pull the harness from the steering wheel to the back of the radio. I took off the steering wheel and clock spring and after 10 minutes of scratching my head I decided to cut the non-airbag part off harness that connects to back of the clock spring along with part of the stereo harness that was connected to the a JBL head unit. These are the parts Im left with. I Would really love doing this mod to my taco but Im stuck. Any way you can guide me from here? Any help would be much appreciated. Unfortunately, I’m not going to be much help. Is your truck that you’re installing it into a jbl truck? Mine is non jbl, and I installed non jbl parts and it was plug and play. I’ve looked into upgrading my head unit to a 6 disc changer model, but can’t find one non jbl. I know there is a way to convert it to jbl, I just don’t know exactly what has to be done to do so. I think there’s an amp under the dashboard that has to be wired in alongside the jbl head unit to convert it to jbl. I don’t have any experience with jbl whatsoever. Sorry
    There should only be two wires connecting to the steering wheel controls, if there’s more it should be for switch illumination. The switch controls only require two wires to function, every button that is pressed has a different ohm value, the head unit then acts upon this input. All you should have to do is connect the two wires from the back of the clock spring to the corresponding wires on the back of the head unit. Non jbl radios have a complete separate connector that is used to connect these two wires that is not used on most non jbl trucks, it looks like the 12pin connector in your photo. I’m guessing that this is the same way, but I don’t know. The 12 pin connector that is on my truck is white, and only contains the two wires from the steering wheel controls. That is where I would start anyway. Find out how many pins are used in this connector on your truck, there’s 4 wires from the junk yard unit if I’m seeing your photo correctly.
