Had the thing for 1400 miles. I adore this truck. What would make it perfect? If I did not have to choose between straining my back for the steering wheel to have leg room, or braking with the corner of the pedal with my knee jammed under the 5 o'clock of the steering wheel (knees at least 90 degree bend while driving).

For starts it is not very safe. Straining for the wheel gives me inferior leverage on the steering wheel. But scooting the seat up and and jamming my legs under the dash makes the pedal dance awkward.

The seat goes far enough back to make my legs very comfortable. The pedals don't have an easy solution for adjustment. So naturally the steering wheel needs to move closer.

I could just throw a race wheel and quick release in call it a day. But I'm only sure that I would be able to retain the cruise control. I'm not sure about the other steering wheel controls. I like having those controls. I also kind of like the feel of the stock steering wheel.

    Option one:
Has anyone ever extended the wheel harness and made a spacer that works with the clock spring and the stock wheel? If so I would be willing to shell out to get that fabbed up.

    [Option two:
    An aftermarket steering wheel with buttons on it that you can wire up in place of the stock steering wheel controls? I'm no electrical eng. but that does seem possible no?}

    Option three (the copout):
I know this setup will work I have done it on many cars. Have the cruise control on a bracket https://www.shapeways.com/product/K59CMM4SP/frs-brz-gt86-cruise-control-bracket . Ditching the remaining the wheel controls for a standard racewheel and quick disconnect.
Below is a pic of my last setup. (Yes that car was fucking slow it's why it's gone).
    IMG_20160907_231750.jpg

Last question. Would ditching the cluster screen controls on the steering wheel leave me with no way to control that screen?

Research and Development... putting in the man hours to study the science of what you need.

    EDIT:

I'm 6' 5" with a 36 inseam. My legs are long. (jesus h christ people haha)

Seems to be a reasonably common issue.

Will pull steering wheel off this weekend in the near future and take some measurements.

    EDIT 2:

Going with option one. Emailed NRG about being a guinea pig for their old short hub for the 05+ since the clock spring looks identical (splines are still an unknown). Might just order one up next week and give it a try.

Did you try telescoping the wheel? A feature integrated from the factory? :p

I’m tall AF, and have my seat all the way back and steering wheel only 3/4ish of the way out.

Didn’t know it had it? RTFM. (loosen the tilt adjustment and pull or push)

And, PULL (or push) HARDER. A lot of times it seems stuck but is just sticky.

Out as far as it goes. Only adjusts like 2 or 3 inches from front to rear. But thank you for assuming I don't know how that works.

I'm 6'5" with long legs. I have this problem in 90% of production vehicles. I have always just thrown race wheels in the past. This time I would like to do something a bit cleaner. Like the first two options I'm researching.

I'm a hair under 6ft, and I have the same issue. Even my '10 jetta was like this, but not my 94 Hilux/ pickup.

I'd love a solution for this.

I was even more uncomfortable than usual, checked the telescope setting ... and it was IN a little bit.

Some dickhead at the dealership couldn't bear discomfort for a few hundred yards of driving, apparently. It's not the additional reach that annoyed me, more the selfishness of the tech who changed it for no good reason.

The manual required the wheel too be at least 8 inches from the chest. I have almost twice that distance with the wheel fully extended.

Maybe I should just get botox in my lats or something.

I prefer to have one but am willing to die like a man. Also what @7r41lbr34k3r said.

I have a long torso and short arms. It sucks. My head is two inches away from the roof (no moonroof). I have to slouch forward to drive.

totally agree , wish the Tacoma wheel would come out another couple inches, I was always grabbing that adjuster and pulling back against the stop. The weird seated position does not help either.

I bet you will find the seating pos. super comfortable once you can reach your wheel.

I have a bad back... also that is not really a solution just another compromise. That is also not good for anyones back while offroading.

If this were the case, I would be relatively better at bench press than deadlift (powerlifting is a hobby of mine).

Being tall is a hobby of mine. I'm not quite understanding the wheel being too far away, unless T Rex arms. :notsure:
