I purchased lifetime roadforce balancing and rotation at Americas Tire Center.

1st time - shop said they got a new cone adapter that eliminates the need for the Haweka adapter, but that did not work. I still got the shakes.

2nd time - went back and said to rebalance using the Haweka adapter/fingers (surprised the tech as the balance was way off), that helped somewhat, but still shaking.

3rd time - I said what the heck, lets try another Americas Tire Center and this time I told them to use the sticky weights instead of the clip-ons and now no more shakes!

My wheels are a little scared up from the clip on weights, but from now on, no more using those to prevent from getting more damage.

My truck shakes dangerously when I press on the breaks, had my rotors resurfaced and new breaks installed a few months ago. Any ideas of what it could be? :help:

You may want to play around with tire pressure also. My 09 had a shake at about 45 mph and up. Adjusted pressure and it went away. I'm running 20s on mine with 265/50/20 and nitto terra grapplers

I have an 08, 2wd, 4 cyl. I bought mine used from a dealer with 32k miles on it. When I test drove it before purchase I did not notice any steering wheel shake. However, within a few days I noticed that there was a slight shake of the steering wheel. I called my dealer and they said that the tires had been balanced and that it could not be them. Never really pursued it beyond that. Just lived with the problem. As tires wore further, the problem got worse, at 35 mph, and 70 mph. Finally when time came to replace tires, I purchased a set of Yokohamas. Steering wheel shake gone and 22k miles later has not returned. I rotate and balance every 5k miles.

Update. Went to my 3rd different Americas Tire center and I had thought they all had roadforce balancers, but this one did not. The guys were very helpful and said they would try to balance them using the regular Hunter balancer. The Haweka adapter they had which was 6lug 5.5 for some reason the fingers would slide through the holes on the rim, and he said that should not happen. I'm not sure myself, as the other 2 previous Americas Tires, had used the Haweka adapter (maybe they used it incorrectly)? But he did use some other adapter that had wheel studs and used my original lugnuts to screw that adapter to the wheel then mount it onto the balancer. He said they were off, and did the best that he could.

Hop on the freeway and dammit the wheel still shakes! So I head down to the Americas Tire that I first went to and told them my situation and this is my 5th time balancing! The manager said he was sorry and would have them look at it again. Waiting then he tells me that the 1 roadforce balancer they have the wheel that comes down took a shit, and they have a tech coming out to fix it today.

I will be going back tomorrow. I am so sick of this damn problem, on a truck that only has 4k miles! If its not fixed tomorrow, I'm going to have to see how I can get those tires replaced.

my steering wheel shook before I lowered the air pressure to 29 psi (factory setting) for my truck. It stopped shaking and now drives smoothly.

hope you find something that works for ya

people overtightening the lug nuts will make rotors warp

Lugcentric wheels suck, 99% of all tire places I went to had no idea how to do it, also the roadforce balancer will not work on most 33" mudterrains and certainly not on 35's..Make your life easier and by hubcentric wheels, i.e MB wheels from discount tire

i had a bad steering wheel shake on my old Xterra and rebalancing didnt work for them etc... then one day i got new tires and BAM no more shake. i had some cooper discoverer tires on there but replaced them with non-aggressive tires and it stopped. now i know theres always some vibes when you put on aggressive tires but that vibe just continually got worse. so yea good luck man i doubt this helped ya much but figured id throw it out there

Update: I went back to Americas Tires this past week and had them use the proper cone instead of the Haweka adapter, and it got somewhat better, but I still had the shake. Today I decided that I am going to have Toyota look into this, and what do you know they fixed it. Wheels were out of balance. So far so good, I hope it stays this way.

My steering wheel started shaking at highway speeds,i noticed my right front tire is feathering on the outer edge, ima try a roadforce balance and using the toyota balancer attachment, then get a fresh alignment that should do the trick:)

After a few days my steering shake has returned. I have now sent a message off to the service manager at the Toyota dealership in regards to this, issue. I'm getting tired of going to the dealership. Thinking of just selling these damn tires or both wheels/tires and getting aftermarket tires and wheels in hopes of ending this issue.
