I was getting some shake as well. I played around with tire pressure and found a setting that eliminated the tire shake. You might want to try doing that before dropping a lot of money at the dealer.

none as of yet there is not much to offer here in germany ,but when i get back to the states next year it's a different ball game
Hey parkp don't get frustrated for me it started in germany after i put a new set of cooper discoverers on and the emchanic said it's nothing well we all know that was wrong,at first i thought it was the tread but then like ray played with the pressure alleviated it some but still had it ,so i ended up rotating my tires and it went away ,you do get some noise and vibration but that depends on your tread,i have all terrain on and rotating fixed my problem and i keep them at 40psi instead of the 45psi the tire calls for and the truck is fine now figured i'd give you my solution to see if it would help you good luck and god bless

Ok, so this morning before I headed out the door. I checked my tire pressure and it was at 32psi. I dropped it down to 29psi which is what it says on the door jamb for oem wheels and tires. It seems to have drastically lessened the shake, there is a tiny bit of I can still feel, but so far it seems like a fix. I will have to see how it goes for the next few days to see if it stays the same.

    Thanks for the tips.

Not sure if i'm too late with this info, but my buddy with 2008 DC pre-runner had this steering wheel shake between 50-70 mph. He took it to the steelership, they said it was the "U joint" on the drive shaft. They replaced it under warranty, and now its cool again. Hope this helps, or sorry if someone said this already...

My truck has ~8,000 miles on it now, and at around 6,500 miles the shake completely diminished. It was really bad right off the lot and now its gone. :D

One quick question to all the people, I am taking a long (well long for me) trip to Socal tomorrow, from San Francisco to San Diego. Driving a little bit today, i have noticed that my steering wheel doesn't really shake, but it feels really loose, feels like I'm constantly moving the steering wheel back and forth to go straight, almost as if i was driving on a bridge on a windy day. Could this have been caused by me removing (accidentally) the weights from the tires? They are out of balance probably. Or is it a sign of something else is going wrong? I just want to know if i should get an alignment, and wheel balancing done before i do this trip.
thanks guys in advance, i didn't know whether i should start a new thread or no.
Please let me know today if possible, as i will be gone tomorrow afternoon, on the trip.

    Are you talking to me?
If yes, thanks for the response. Do you have some pointers for me on how to check the tie rods? do i just jack it up and shake the wheel if there is any play? Or should i just replace them and try how that works?
I have read some threads, where people talk about how to replace them, but they do not really describe how to know if they are going bad.
Also one last question, is it bad for the truck to drive it like this for a while? Will it damage anything other than being annoying, and maybe unsafe?
    Thanks again! :D

You jack the front end up and then see if you can move the tire left or right. That's how the shop that I was going to get my alignment done showed me when they told me mine where done. As for how long you can drive on it idk it has screwed up one of my front driver sides pretty bad to where I need to replace it.

Turns out mine had 1/2 lb. too many wheel weights on one tire. F Big 2 Toyota in the A with a red hit poker.

FWIW I lowered my air pressure to 29 psi (I still have stock size tires)
usually ran around 32-34 ish with steering wheel shakes sometimes.
shakes seem to be gone :notsure:
I don't know for sure, it's still too early too tell.

I tried this too. It came back. Mine seems to be gone for the most part after the dealer rebalanced & rotated my tires at my 45k service 2 months ago. I now only notice it slightly if my truck has been sitting several days, or the weather is cold. After a few miles, it seems to go away. My tires are inflated to 35psi as recommended by the dealer & Michelin dealer.

This seems pretty strange happening all around the country. I test drove a 2011 tacoma with 15000 miles. Shook pretty bad.

Oh that's normal..... J/k.....It's those shitty weights they use. Have the tires filled with nitrogen instead of just air. Nitrogen is a dry gas (non-flammable) and does not vary (expand/contract) in pressure to cold or hot climates like normal air. IMHO

    THEY'RE BACK

I really think it's that ST004-06ST004 TSB or the steering intermediate shaft one on mine.

I've had new & old suspension
new & old tires & wheels
    roadforce balances
    alignments
    changed tire pressure
    ignored it

    meh!

There is no significant difference in the pressure change with temperature of a nitrogen and air-filled tire. There is a difference between moisture-laden and dry air, however. There is little benefit from filling tires with nitrogen versus regular air for the average motorist. The reason nitrogen is used aviation tires is that it does not support combustion. The reason it is used in race tires is because it's dry and it's also often easier and quieter to just have nitrogen bottles versus air compressors in the pits.

I made some observations, after having lowered the pressure down to 29psi and that minimizing the shakes, but its still there. The shaking only happens on certain types of road surfaces, at highway speeds. On smooth ungrooved black top, there is absolutely no shaking. This somewhat tells me that it is not infact the tire balancing.

sometimes I've seen trucks shake when the roters need to be turned. When they get hot and you hit cold water they get out of shape a little and cause a bounce riding and when you mash the breaks. big tires need time to warm up in the cold too.

I believe I may have found a solution to my shaking. I went ahead and performed the zip tie fix for the intermediate steering shaft play. This morning went onto the fwy and no shaking this time! Steering feels a lot more solid now, and tracks a hell of lot better! wow what a difference. I hope it stays this way.
