Definitely check the hub bore on the wheels.. the toyota hub is 106mm.. anything larger than that will be lug centric.. and could cause vibes. I know I just switched to different wheels and have vibrations. Since this issue came about i have been doing alot of research. my previous wheels had a bore size of 106.25mm and I never had an issue. Fast forward to now with my new set up.. that have a bore size of 108mm.. and I have vibes. Ill be picking up some Gorilla hub centric rings.. 108mm - 106.1mm to match them better. Can be ordered from Amazon for about 16 bucks.

I replaced my tires with BF Goodrich Rugged Trail tires and the shake between 65-72 MPH has disappeared!

    what did you replace?

I have Toyo AT passenger and the shake comes back after a week no matter how careful they balance. The previous tires (Goodyear MT something or other) were practically undrivable so I've just learned to live with it- unlike the squeek from the cabin vent fan

Same shit here with my 2011. I have run BFG AT 265/75/16 and then added MB wheels and then changed tires to Duratracs. All the same shake in the steering wheel. Discount has balanced my tires more than 10 times trying to fix.

Using new Michelin on current 2010. Put new nitto crossteks on the 06 a month ago. Like both sets of tires. HATE the frikken wheel shake 60-72 on both of them. It's PISSIN ME OFF!!!!

My steering wheel shake has been going on since i drove it off the lot (will know better next time...), and I've been bringing my truck in to troubleshoot. Well, i now have 17K miles on the Dunlops (over 8 months), have brought my truck in at least 4 times to get the tires road force balanced, and the dealership is convinced it's the tires. They pulled some Bridgestone Dueler HT's off another truck, and the shake was much less (not completely gone). Then they try to sell me the tires for $931; i say no, of course, and asked for an option B. i had to file a report with Toyota Consumer Affairs and after about a week and a half, Toyota CA offered to split the cost of new tires 3 ways with the dealership. So, my estimated cost is $380 installed.
My question is, is this as much as i can expect? Should i take that deal? I asked if there was an expiration on the offer, and Toyota CA said no. I'm tempted to put up with the vibration for another year, and then redeem the offer. My only reservations with this is that my warranty will be expired by then. (So, if it's not really the tire, I'll be SOL)

I had steering wheel shake. Balanced/rotated twice no better. The third time I got a smart guy at discount tire who rotated side to side instead of front to back. Smooth! BFG 285/75-16's.

I'd go with the Bridgestone dueler ht's. The Dunlops are just junk. I've had two cars off the dealer lot with the Dunlop tires and replaced them after 10k miles. I have the dueler ht this time and they are much better. So far mine have about 18k miles on them. I would think thay can give you a better deal than that because 931 bucks seems like an inflated price. They can be purchased from discount tire for 628.00. Also did they try switching out the wheels/rims one at a time too? Try one at a time with the tires? It might just be one in the front which I would think they can replace only one for free since it's a new car.

If the trucks still under warranty then I'd insist on them fixing it on thier own dime. Your truck has a history with them of this ongoing problem. But if you can put up with the shake for year then it's either not that bad or your have a high tolerance for defects.

And I'm sure when you call up in a year, they'll understand how you have nothing but a memory to prove it.

Get the tires, and hope the shake stays away or is minimized enough you can live with it.

Don't pay for anything. I went through a lot of BS. In the end they put new tires on on their dime. It is a lot better but still not correct. Don't know what to do at this point but something is not right with this truck. They need to figure it out. We can't all be wrong.

I have a 2013 DCSB prerunner 4 cy that has the same problem. It is completely stock steel wheels. Shakes like hell 40 to 70 about 65 is the worse speed. Been to shop 4 times now, in the shop currently Toyota is replacing a motor mount. Hope this is the fix. I really like my truck but think it should ride Down the road with out causing my drink to go flat.

finally got my hub ring in. Lost one somewhere. Got it on to hopefully fix my vibes. And it didn't. Still shakes like crazy between 50-70mph. I did air up the passenger front tire to compensate for the pull I had.. so maybe that might be contributing. Doubtful tho.

Only other options I can think of are:

    U-joints
    Carrier bearing
    Wheel bearings
    Motor mounts

Tires were just rebalanced thursday and checked out good. Any ideas? Im goin crazy here.

Moose.. I took this advise from Bamtoy who is a taco mechanic in this forum.. Always look at the tires frist.. is roadforced balance? this will solved 90% of the time with the shakes. That was causing mine problem. the 3d party didnt have the right equipment to do it. had it done at toytoa dealership.
If not,, then look into tie rod issue, then bearings or alinement issue.
    good luck..

    thanks man.

After another alignment at discount with brand new 3 month old machines... the vibs are gone. Smooth ay all speeds.

Only issue now is i have vibes when braking. Its not in the pedals tho. Its in the steering wheel and seat. The rotors are less than a year old. New pads as well. My alignment is a tad off still.. seems to have positive camber. It alright pulls to the right a little. Not sure what causing the vibes when braking. Any thoughts?
