The TOYOTA font seems to be slightly modified Avenir95 font (only difference is that the stem on the Y is longer on the unmodified font)

Not looking it up, I thought it was straight-up Helvetica. But, I’m probably wrong.

I looked it up & your exactly right. So, all the times it is listed as one of the many Helvetica ones, itMs wrong. Interesting!

Both Helvetica and Avenir95 are very similar to the toyota font but the "O" of helvetica is less rounder, while the Avenir95 is identical. As I said, the only difference is with stem of "Y" (shorter on the toyota font). That's why I think it's a slightly modified Avenir95 font, because the rest is identical

You’re exactly right, it’s a slightly moddified Avenir95, enough to make it a proprietary Toyota font

Why not try the stencil idea but spray it with plasti-dip in your color of choice. If it doesnt look good peel it off and go for another option.

Life long graffiti artist and muralist here...

You will never get a clean edge trying to mask and paint on top of the textured bedliner paint. It will bleed under and look sloppy. The way to do it is to reverse the stencil process...

    1. Sand down the bedliner paint on the tail gate.
    2. Paint the tailgate the color of what you want the letters to be (not everywhere just where the letters are going to be).
    3. Let fully dry (1 day)
    4. Download vector version of the Toyota logo here (you only need the typeface- not the symbol and tagline): https://seeklogo.net/tag/toyota
    5. Send vector logo to a vinyl shop and tell them the size it should be (and that you only want the letters). Ask for a low tack backing.
    6. Apply vinyl letters to tailgate.
    7. Spray bedliner paint over the vinyl letters.
    8. Peel vinyl letters back off immediately while paint is still wet (use an exacto blade to peel up the edges gently). This will reveal the letters with the paint color you first laid down.

This will give you a clean edge on the letters and should work fine.

If it was me, I would keep it stock as possible. I have replaced my rear Toyota tailgate logo twice, once when I replaced the tailgate and again last year, when I had mine repainted. I made a video of how I installed the new logo, and when I got it. There is this guy and all he does is make replacement decals for various vehicles. He does an insanely great job as he has the original specs. Here is a link to my short video:
