Thanks for the great walk-through! Was able to knock mine out over the long 4th weekend, and they look great! Took them off-road this past weekend and they held up perfectly.

Getting ready to do the same to my second gen wheels. Corrosion is about the same as yours was... I'm going with the duplicolor bronze. That graphite looks good also!

Thanks for the very detailed walk-through. I followed this when painting my wheels. Took about 4 days worth of work as I took my time, and also fought the Georgia humidity lol. Really happy with how they turned out!

I used Rustoleum primer & paint dark bronze.

I just painted my wheels using this write up and while they looked great after they dried, they are scratching super easy. Just running my finger over the paint gets tons of fine scratches. Anyone else have this?

PS "skuffs" you see on the wheel are just dirt from me putting it back on

If you're using an enamel paint, you should wait at least a week for it to harden. Not realistic to be out of a vehicle for a week but that's the right way to let it cure. Until then, the paint will be soft.

Got around to painting my wheels this weekend. Really happy with the way they turned out. Basically got new wheels for $25. These will definitely do until I can afford some true aftermarket wheels

Thanks for the input. I'm not sure if it is enamel but it's the same as the OP used, just satin black instead of gloss black. I did 6 coats and let them dry for 4 days before touching them. Just barely running my fingers over them causes marring. The paint is not coming off though which is good. They're my winter set so not on the vehicle at the moment. I'll work on getting pics soon.

When I did bed tie downs earlier this year, I did 3 coats of rustoleum enamel and that took a week before the paint way hard enough to install and even longer to truly harden. If you did 6 coats, it may simply take longer to fully cure. There are typically specific instructions too on recoating where if you don't hit it within an hour or two, you have to wait the full week before recoat so that everything cures appropriately.

Thanks. I did 6 coats, about 10 mins apart. Then let sit for 4 days. Instructions on back said it only takes 48 hours to cure. Done within the temp and humidity range mentioned in the back. Hmmm, I wonder what happened. They looked great after painting and even better after drying. I wonder if I should try to do another couple of coats in a few days?

After almost 2 days, mine were dry to the touch, didn't scratch, didn't leave prints...
But after a 4 hour drive, there were drips on two of the wheels from the center out, pulled by the force of the spinning wheel. It's only noticeable if you're looking for it, but something to be aware of.

I waited 24 hours across the 4th of July weekend, but my last two wheels had some warping dude to not being fully dry at highway speeds. I might wait 36-48 hours.

Any of you guys think the OR wheels will look good in bronze? I've never seen it done and I'm willing to be the guinea pig lol
