Woah! They actually look really good! I've been looking hard for a picture like this by I haven't had any luck lol I think I will do the same, except I'm planning to paint the center cap bronze and the toyota logo black to give it some contrast.

I would love to get some different wheels but I would rather spend that cash on proper tires and a lift.

also derped mine in Bronze a while back only set me back about $85, going to wait on new rims when i go to larger tires. Survived so far for over a year with everything from mild overlanding to some pretty tough and tight rocky trails

Looks good! I went the decal route. It’s not perfect because stickers are a pain in the butt to put on but it will hold me over until I get some new wheels!4FD431E4-C492-464D-A93D-3F88FB3130C5.jpg

Forgive me for reviving an old post, but I'm going to try this with Rustoleum Universal Satin Bronze. I'll let you know how it turns out! Thanks for posting these tips :)

So far been going good, a few adjustments to original instructions, used dawn and water to clean and prep, did 3 lite coats then hit it with 4 medium coats. Did caps in matte black and touched badge with bronze. Will post when set is done and on truck!:thumbsup:20210514_220334.jpg
Edit: doing wally world tires with wally world paint:fingerscrossed:

I just read through this whole thread and a few people have asked this same question and even fewer have answered. I have not done this to my truck but I do have a great deal of experience with painting wheels and other exterior vehicle parts. I can probably answer for most people here:

If they stayed on-road mostly, the paint should be nearly unaffected and probably will be for years. Main thing that gets damaged is the lip when replacing tires but is easy to fix with touching up.

If they went off-road a moderate amount, the paint can hold up well or it can get chipped a bunch, kinda just depends on what the terrain was and how well they prepped their rims prior to painting. Most of their paint probably looks pretty good still with some touch-ups

If they used plasti-dip (love the stuff), and stayed on road, their rims will look great until they replace tires. Almost guaranteed to Jack up your paint job when getting new tires with plastidipped rims. Again, easy to touch-up

If they used plasti-dip and went off-road, they probably had a hard time getting mud or all the dirt off the paint because plasti-dip really hangs onto mud/dirt. You almost have to scrub a layer of paint off to get the mud/dirt fully off and that’s a PITA. The plasti-dip holds up well off-road to scratches but is hard to get mud off.

Hope this answers your question, I know it’s not direct testimony from someone who sprayed their Tacoma wheels but I’ve definitely sprayed wheels in the past a lot

Sorry for not responding! Mine are holding up great so far, a little grungy and am thinking of redoing it in copper instead of bronze eventually! About 6500 miles after painting and 150or miles of sand and rock

What did this run ya? (If ya don’t mind me asking). I realize powder coating will be different priced shop to shop but I’m definitely doing this, just want an idea of what I’m in for price wise. Your rims are easily top 3 on this thread. Good call on the 20% gloss

I did mine in rustoleum sunlit brass. Worked out great. I definitely went light on the coats and clear coat. (1 can o’ paint per wheel + 1 can o’ clear coat per 2 wheels). If you’re not trying to save money I’d consider doubling that to make sure you can get full coverage without running the bottles dry. Some of the original paint shows through on the insides. Couldn’t figure out how to get those without over doing the face honestly. But you can’t tell unless you look. I’ve had my back left one on for 2 weeks (mounted it after 24hrs) and it’s been holding up just fine. Hadn’t taken it off road yet. Just putting the last two on today and we’ll see how they go.
