Stereo upgrades, what would you do first?

I agree w/ xwillx and what everyone else said, but I'm surprised nobody mentioned some some deadener. I would almost suggest putting that in first!

I'm redoing my whole sound system next weekend, but decided to install my new head unit today since I was bored (Pioneer AVH-P3300BT). I have to say the stock speakers sound a million times better with just the head unit upgraded...so if you were going to do one thing for now, I would look at a good double DIN head unit. :)

I did the HU upgrade first, then speakers. I think that makes the most sense because head units have different specs, so if you do a speaker upgrade first, they may not be the best fit for the head unit.

Even with the stock speakers, upgrading to an aftermarket HU made a HUGE difference in volume level and sound quality.

How do you like the Kenwood 6960? I am thinking about pulling the trigger on one.

I already bought the metra dash and steering wheel adapter.

I just installed the 6960 and love it. My only complaint is th BT sync as it only tries once, so about half the time I have to connect manually.
I was glad I was able to use my 2011.4 map update as the maps that come with the unit are a bit old.

Funny, I liked the schoshe kit better then the metro (I bought both) as I found the colour match better, and the hazard light switch fit better. I'm also not a fan of the texture, as the vents on either side are not textured.
I do agree with you regarding the crappy plastic brackets....

Have you hooked up a backup camera yet?

This is what I currently have in my truck. It's a Rockford Fosgate T0 12inch that I have running at 1ohm on 1000watts. It beats pretty hard. I got pulled over for it but to tell you the truth its hard to take it as a warning. It's hard to not take it as a complement that your stereo is loud. I have just stock door speakers though.

I did the HU first, with the steering wheel control adapter, a HD radio, and a parking brake override for using videos.
    Then comes speakers.
New speakers won't help much because the piece of shit radio has an electronic volume limiter to prevent blow-outs of the piece of shit speakers....

It's funny, every time this topic comes up we always get mixed responses ... 50/50 on HU first vs. speakers first.

Does it matter? Well, that depends on your preference.

Soon as I have some free time, I will do 1) speakers 2) amp 3) HU + s/w control adapter
    Why?
    a) the stock speakers blow - we can all agree here. imo running them with a new HU is polishing the proverbial turd
    b) i already have the speakers + amp - so minimal expense here. see personal preference comment above.
    c) sound deadening the doors while installing speakers will also help some with road noise, esp if you go for the noise reducing foam stuff (i cant remember the name) in addition to the sound deadening mat.
