Found a few past threads discussing this topic, but nothing that seemed conclusive so I'm hoping to get some closure here and especially for folks in the future...

My particular application here is 2nd Gen TRD Off Road coils on 5100s, although I believe this topic applies to both 2nd and 3rd Gens, but when mounting stock coil springs onto 5100s does the lower end of the coils need to face the rear of the vehicle like the Toyota factory service manual specifies, and if so or not, why?

In case it's not clear what exactly I'm talking about here please reference page 3 in the following link: http://www.customtacos.com/tech.old.../06toyrm/06toypdf/06rmsrc/rm2006ta/039000.pdf.

I do understand that the lower coil spring perch on the 5100 isn't fixed and can rotate to any clocking position around the axis of the shock body, whereas the stock (yellow) Bilstein's coil spring perch is fixed in place I believe, however, the coil spring could still be set to the manual's specified clocking position on the 5100.

Any help or insight you can provide is much appreciated! Thanks!

    A few.
Technically speaking, with the factory coils, the paint marks on the springs face outward towards the tire. That causes the lower end of the coil to face towards the front on one side and towards the back on the other side. I noticed on the Trd Pro with the Fox shocks it has a Trd logo on the spring that faces outward and the bottom of the coils are still the same way. One side towards the front and the other towards the back.

Nope. Only threads debating whether to change oil and spark plugs every week or every other week get multi-page replies around here. :stirthepot:
