I have a 97 lx 4x4 and want to know if all 4x4 taco's are the same stock height or if they differ in models. is it just a difference in tires?

They should have come from the factory with all the same height. Why do you ask?

well cause mine looks lower and I know it has to do with the steel wheels and no fender flares but im just wondering if 31's will make it sit as high as a stock TRD?

I would say yes to your question about 31's. That diameter is really close to the stock size of 265/70/16. Keep in mind that these trucks are kind of bad about the springs getting weak. This will make the truck sill a little lower.

According to the 1997 factory specifications there are some slight differences in 4X4 overall heights.

Regular Cab = 67.3" normally; 68.5" with optional wheels / tires
XtraCab = 66.9" normally; 68.3" with optional wheels / tires

Yes - the differences between 'normal' and 'optional' aren't the same for both models. No, I don't know why that is ...
