My stock seemed very quiet, I recently replaced with a Borla cat back 140140 for double cab. It's Pretty mellow Unless you get on it, and then has a nice deep sound (for a v6). Zero drown.

Youtube is pretty bad from what ive seen.
Not all sources are created equal.

I used a gopro in my garage and did a swap from shorties to long tubes which made a HUGE difference. Recorded both, played back and zero changes in audio were captured.
Totally inaccurate since longs make the sound much deeper in person, wall rattling in fact.

The other issue with youtube is from 1 person to the next, the end user may be using a lappy, a phone, a tower, a tv, a tv with avr attached running 10k in equipment, and the eq and driver equip colors the source sound.

I've already decided not to go cat back. Too expensive. I wanna upgrade with just a muffler. Anyone see an increase in performance? Is the stock muf restricting exhaust flow?

Don't think you'll see an performance increase, just for sound. I was going to just swap my muffler also, but my system was rusty, so just replaced whole cat-back.

A lot of people just replace muffler. Just depends on how load you want it. The Borla might be a good choice if your not wanting it to loud. My cat back isn't much louder then stock under mellow driving.

I just put on a Gibson muffler. Doesn't sound different than stock at low speed, sounds good when you put your foot down. Lots of vids on the tube.

Bilstein 5100's w/ Eibach coil overs in front (set at 3" of lift). Front diff drop kit. Extended Bilstein 5100's in the rear. Deaver 2" AAL in rear w/ axle shims. 285 x 75 r 16 Goodyear Duratracks. Wheelers steelies type B, AFE cold air intake. Sway bar delete. All Pro Apex front bumper (rattle canned Rustoleum primer + flat black). Plasti-dipped emblems. Mud flaps removed.
Cut the exhaust right where it turns down after the axle. With the exhaust flow direction towards the ground. Its just enough to bring it to life a bit
