Hello ladies and gents, does anyone have pictures of their rear stock bumpers that are the flat black? I want to get an idea how this looks from multiple angles as I am wanting to get rid of the chrome plates. I really want to do a color match, and cant find anyone to trade. I was figuring to do a vinyl wrap, but a color match vinyl is upwards of $200 bucks, and that seems a little ridiculous to me o_O but a standard flat black vinyl is only like $25 bucks.

I Plasti dipped my chrome caps this summer.

I wanted to see if I liked the way it looked before purchasing the matte black caps- I like it, and the finish is holding up surprisingly well so far

Don't care for the color matched caps.

Did the grill bezel and logo in February, also holding up well, fwiw.

You can get 3m 1080 g120 vinyl wrap for about $25. However, these pieces are extremely hard to wrap due to the curves/shape. I had never wrapped anything before but thought I could do it. After failing twice, I took it to a professional shop, which cost way more than I wanted to spend ($150).

How did you plasti-dip them? Did you take them off and if so, does this break any tabs? I'm scared to take them off and break some tabs and not have them fit back on!

It is relatively easy. There are a few threads on TW about Plasti dipping the rear caps including some write ups about taking them off.

I tried taking one off, and it was not difficult, so I made a video.

If the weather is warm, I wouldn't worry about breaking any tabs.

The hardest part is freeing each cap from the metal clip. I did not reinstall these clips and the caps are on solid.

@Deacon Blues did reinstall them, so he might be able to help with that.

    Fwiw, here is the video-

    https://youtu.be/4ymEfZol0cI

Reinstallation is straightforward, much easier than removing them since I did not reinstall the metal clips. Good luck.

I agree, I think the caps would stay on fine without the metal clips but it just bugged me knowing they weren't back on there.

You can reach in and press them on but it's a literal pain and will result in a skinned knuckle or two.

Go in from the top just under the tail light and the left side of the cap, the tab sits high in that spot and can be reached from there.

The biggest thing is being careful not to drop the tiny metal clip between the end cap mount and the cap. I made that mistake and the little shit is gone forever, had to get another from the dealer.

If your going to dip it, I just taped everything off and it came out fine for me. Just make sure you wait 10 mins between each coat and do about 4 coats.

Thanks to @boynoyce (how to video) & @Deacon Blues (rock auto) for the help.
Took me awhile to figure out but if I can do it anyone can.
Chrome bumper was driving me crazy.

PS- what the $%$# is Toyota doing selling a truck with a Chrome bumper?
I realize this is the trend, I wonder who actually prefers chrome...
Perhaps I am the weird one...
