I get light to moderate wind noise when driving with them stowed (Bay Area in California at +85mph.) and when they are in the open position they are much louder and I can feel the resistance against the truck while driving. With that being said most of the wind noise I get from them stowed comes from cross winds, not so much from the wind from my truck moving forward. All in all I wish I had gone with a fabricated aftermarket roof rack instead of the OEM (mostly because of the max load weight). If you don't mind the max recommended load weight of 75lbs. then these are very cool and being able to store them in the closed position is very convenient.

Are these beefy enough to put kayak j hooks on? It looks like they are not.

I have put all manner of stuff on mine including lumber, stand up paddle boards, and kayaks. They have held up great and I don’t see any reason why J hooks would not work well with them. I am about 250lbs and have used my whole body weight to hang off of the sides without any unusual creeks, sounds, or shifting

Like Tom said....Sometimes you just have to say WTF!

It was a short ride home in the outskirts of town, but it held fine (I also have a reinforced tailgate). As far as noise, it is noisier for sure. Music or talk radio will drown it out though, as it does look better open!
