LOL...now the speakers I really wanted are not available...
    so...
they said for me to drop in head unit and keep Bostons until they re-stock. Then they will send alpines free shipping....

unfortunately having to go up the ladder a little got the customer service stepping up....
that said..... I'd love for them to further impress me with more follow thru and change me into a sonicelectronix fan...
    time will tell....:D

yeesh I thought Bostons were usually touted as better than alpine - then again, Marv's been trying to undo all my brainwashed thoughts.

Eh, I'll continue my ignorance until I save more and my sub is installed. Poor Marv is still at it on my box, and my money is buying a camera.

i ordered speakers last week, got em and hated em...no low end at all...none....and I was steered into them. the headunit was ordered and on hold ...decided to accept it after they gave me option on speakers...
you need a scorecard here for this stereo....

    1) got boston s95 and s65 speakers...installed and didnt do much over stock and had less bottom end.
    2) after much back and forth they agreed to swap out with alpines BUT...alpines are out of stock.
    3) allowing me to use till alpines are re-stocked and then will swap out.(bostons for alpine swap)
    4) ordered as per Marv agreeing:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11104_Pioneer+Premier+DEH-P400UB.html which arrives wednesday with usb and ipod adapters and a single din.

so... these Bostons get a new head unit for a trial while I wait for the alpine's. This is actually better for me as I get to see what difference the new head unit does from the stock one on the Bostons. (I like learning!)

My gut feeling is I will end up with :
    pioneer head unit
    alpine speakers
a 4x75 amp stuffed under passenger seat
    but....
always a but... I'd rather try to not spend the extra $200-250 on amp and harness if I can. Cheap arse? No... both of my businesses are in service related industries and this economy has me scared... so I am a scared arse!

I like Pioneer decks as well, the PICO fuses blowing design on them is stupid though.

Didn't realize he was still playing with the factory deck.

For what it is, it does amaze. Still, sounds like it's made for the high school crowd. Rears are near worthless.

I'd like to see what the OP says once the new deck is in. I did the reverse and put in a deck first, noticed the clean up and added support. I think the Bostons will appreciate it. If I'm not mistaken, they likey the juice.

Oh, if I only had the deep pockets - I'd be buying Morel!

careful... i worked at a car stereo place in high school and had one of the craziest systems in my town (small town tho) and i've settled down a bit since ;)

my 95 dodge dakota had a pioneer flip up dvd screen, replaced all factory speakers with pioneer, 1500 watt amp, capacitor, 2 12" soundstream trantula subs, xm radio (first in my county to have it), and back in the day i had a mini disc plugged in through an aux input and this was like 2001 [IMG] i think i could hit around 136 db... i didn't have it set-up to blow my ear drums out, that db reading was just me turning the volume up on a bass cd

You not going to get solid midbass without power. The more more the better IMO. I have two rules I follow in car audio. #1 you cannot have enough power.

#2 you cannot have enough deadener.

#3 you can't have deep enough pockets :(

You really have to pick the high school on that one. I was near the top with two 12" RF 4ohm subs, some Infinity kappas, an RF punch 125.2, and an eclipse deck.

That is true as well...lol But considering my tacoma is my daily driver, I have about $2000 into it and would consider it "competition" quality on a small show basis. It wouldn't be able to compete in world finals the way it sits but some small shows where install wasn't a huge bunch of points I think I could take home a trophy or two. I personally do not consider $2000 to be alot, but then again car audio is my passion. I know for a fact if someone came to me and had $1500 I could give them something competitive installed.

To the OP, I would keep the Boston's over the Alpines anyday, put some power to them and enjoy.

That RMS IMO means 350wrms if you know what your doing. Power doesnt blow speakers, dirty power does. I typically run 3 times rated power to my speakers and as of yet have had a problem. :)

All kinds of good amps out there, i'm a bit partial to Zapco, Image Dynamics, Sundown Audio. All comes down to your budget.
