How do the stock Goodyear wrangler adventure tires on the TRDOR perform in snow?

Nice truck Mike... In that little bit of snow you'll be Ok for a year or so..till then let the OEM's wear down a bit and then you might want to go winter tire in winter.... Especially what you guys got this week..... You got dumped on big time like me over to your East.....!!

I run Michilin X-Ice... works for me... I've got 4X4 also.

Op has the stock sport tires Toyo open countries. I think they will be ok for a year, but honesty I have run some pretty crappy tire in the winter before, and I'm not sure I will be willing to run these again next winter. They got 1300 miles on them now.

Am I the only one who didn't get stock toyo open country A30 with their sport?

My sport came with firestone destination LE2, not sure if anybody else on here got the same on their truck, I thought these were the stock ones on the sport not sure why mine came with firestones instead Toyos?

I got Toyo, but would have gladly taken the good years the off road and pro folks got.

My next tire purchase will be Cooper ST MAXX for summer/off road use and Blizzaks or nokians for winter. After my running first set of winter tires/blizzaks on my DD beater (scion tC) last winter, I'll never go back to AT's on the truck they're mediocre in off road muddy terrain and in snow.

My stock tires do great, even with very little weight in the bed with 2' of snow:

I ditched my stock tires and got KO2s last winter. I don't care what some people say about them on here. We had a storm that dumped 3 feet of snow on us overnight and I was out driving in it at 5am before anything was plowed. They're so soooo much better than stock. Put the stock tires and wheels on my dad's 4Runner and they do ok, but not nearly as well as the KO2s

You guys....my stock tire was a Dunlop, AKA POS. Run those tires till you NEED new ones. Anything will plow through level snow, its about hills that matter.

Pretty much true. I live in the hills so I had to step up to a better tire right after I bought my truck last winter

KO2s. Previous treads on my 4Runners were the original KOs and Duratracs

Which work best, in your opinion in the snowy hills?

It's really a toss up between KO2s and Duratracs from my experience.

Whatever was done to the KO2s improved over the KOs greatly, in my opinion.

Two of my friends run Duratracs on their 4Runners and they do great in the winter, especially when we're out playing on trails where a normal snow tire wouldn't be as good. My 4Runner was awesome with 33" Duratracs, although they did feel a little "floaty" because they were so wide.

There may be some other very good tires out there, but when my Duratracs and KO2s both handled a few rough winters exceptionally well, both on and off road, I have no need to look elsewhere.

Side note: I also have Cooper AT3s on my beater 2002 4Runner which a lot of people praise. Not bad, but not anything to go crazy about

As others have stated a true winter tire will be give the best traction, but if your tires are fairly new, someone who has plenty of winter driving experience should be okay, you might have to rely on 4wd more but for most highway driving you should be okay. I have the Toyo's on my truck and they seem to do okay in most highway conditions, I haven't been in any snow yet. I am waiting till the end of the month to mount my steel wheels with my Blizzak's, I try to wait until it cools down and we don't get much snow until end of December or early January. My local tire shop is checking to see if he can build me some TPMS sensors, if not I'll run with the light on and check them when the temperature swings dictate changes in pressure. I ran the Blizzak DMV2's last winter on my DCLB SR5(2009), and barely had to use 4wd, they are great winter tires, only downside is they seem to wear fast, I got 3 winters out of a set of Firestone Winterforce tires, that I used before the Blizzak's, they were okay, never had any problems but the Blizzak's seem to grip better.

I think that's the plan, run the stock tires this year, then get better tires next year. We don't use the Tacoma as a daily - my wife is self-employed, she can stay home if the roads get bad.
Thanks Lotus - it's the first time my wife has ordered exactly what she wanted. She's pretty happy. (I just steal the truck on the weekends). :)

True Story : I was driving back home on the backroad highways (unplowed and unsalted/sanded) of PA a few weeks ago and got dumped on with about 4" of wet heavy snow, the stock tires handled perfectly. A Ford Superduty traveling about 4 car lengths in front of us spun out on a corner ended up backwards in a ditch and completely bent his rear leafs, this happened right in front of my tacoma and my truck handled the corner, snow and ice no problem.

I agree. Closest you could get to a true all season is one of Nokian's all weather tires. They're more like an all season geared to Northern climates, so while a conventional all season sacrifices snow and ice handling, the Nokian excels there and sacrifices a little on summer handling and wear: https://www.nokiantires.com/winter-tires/nokian-wrg3-suv/

I'm working on fixing issues with a Volvo XC70 that I bought cheap and only have one set of wheels for it, so I may buy a set of those Nokians for it when I get it ready to go.
