I did the clamp and washer mod but I still didn't like that the tailgate could still be open so I bougth some D-rings from Amazon and stared messing with it.

If you take off the top cover of the tailgate there's a torx screw (I think it was a T30) on eash side. I used a dremel to cut an opening on the cover. Installed it on both side and now the tailgate is slammed shut with very little to no play at all.

Good thing you scared them off in time. I’m weary about getting a pop n lock after reading that they have problems with getting stuck in the lock or unlock position. But most of the threads iv been reading are over 4 to 5 years old. Does anyone know if they resolved that problem?

Jeez if they come with tools there's not much you can do. Sounds like you tried. Hose clamp, epoxied or not works against 99% the dirtbags..

Might want to put a tack weld on that exposed bolt head, wouldn't take much to back that off.

Or get a M6 bolt with a security head or something.

I'm near Ontario... I have seen several amputee truck beds driving around and have to assume its pretty prevalent.

    Too few to list.
Just goes to show that no matter how you secure it, if someone wants it they will find a way to take it. You're right, snips would cut through the clamp real easily even when snug. At least it's not your cats! Some guy from work who lives in Ontario said when he started his 4Runner, it was real loud. He got it checked out and one side of his exhaust pipe was cut straight through and for some reason did not finish.

I got mine from Amazon (Used - Like New). It was half the price of a new one and the only thing wrong with it was that the box came in damaged. All the parts/wires were still brand new.

I never needed a bracket. Works perfectly fine.
