I did the same thing but spray painted the hose clamp black to have it not stand out as much. I also attached it in a way here I had to tighten the screw from under/behind the bumper. (very easy... standard size screw driver will reach)

I hope I will never have to rely on the hose clamp since I also installed this:

Just curious, if your tailgate is locked with a hard cover, can it still be easily stolen? Stupid question, but just wanted to confirm since I see all these clamp mods etc

I lock my tail gate and have my hardcover too, but adding a clamp is another way to make it difficult for the thieves. Not saying it'll stop them 100%, but it adds another layer making it harder.

Usually thieves want to be in and out A.S.A.P. thus they'll likely pass if you have done this.

This is terrible advice to give someone. Thou shall not steal. He can buy a used one, take it to a paint shop to match the color of his truck, me I would just buy one out of pocket and in a couple of months you will not feel the hit on your wallet.

Quicksand with hood protector, color matching decals on tailgate latch, mudflaps, glovebox, and tailgate hitch cover.
I posted my videos along with others, a couple of months ago, about this issue of tailgates being stolen. It has also been reported on the national news. First off, at the very least, install the hose clamp on the right side where the tailgate fits. This alone, will deter tailgate thefts, especially if you install the hose clamp with the screw on the underside of the vehicle. And buy a PopNLock which is a power tailgate lock. Here are links to my two videos on this subject:

    Too few to list.
I was doing this as well until I found out how easily you can bypass a hose clamp with a flat head screw driver by simply prying that wom bolt off or using a wire cutter easily cuts that clamp. Thieves carry tools, that's why they cut the camera wires for quicker escape.

get the anti tweaker device from @christian06... Better than a cheap hose clamp and its easy to install.

@raidercraig What Dash cam do you use? owlcam? I am looking for a sentry kind so I can record while parked. My current front and rear dash cam do the trick but wanting that night time security.

I’m running Thinkware Q800 Pro. Parking mode is excellent along with Cloud features. Night time recording is best out there as they use Sony camera. Go to Blackboxmycar.com

no. the tailgate needs to be opened and at about a 45 degree angle in order to be pulled out.

Don’t rely on a hose clamp until after you take a standard screwdriver and try prying one off- easy to do in less than 10 seconds!

At least put a couple washers over the tailgate cable eyes to make them harder to slip off. Also consider a Sabellco lock.
